Default Is it VATS?

After replacing lifters and fuel pump 02 WS6 will not start. Replaced fuel pump relay and ignition relay, all other fuses good. Fuel gauge won't work but all others do as vehicle will crank but not start. Does the VATS prevent the fuel pump from engaging? Thanks

see if it wants to run on carb cleaner by spraying into throttle body while someone cranks it over.

Can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key on?
Have you checked to see if there is pressure at the rail?

is the security light on? if it's off that's probably not your problem.

Security light is on and no fuel pressure. When replacing the relay i heard the fuel pump prime once but fuel gauge still won't work and it just cranks.

Not sure I can help with what the problem is, but based on what you've said VATS is not the issue.

The fuel gauge not working tells you there's a problem with the sender and thus likely a problem with the pump as well. IIRC, the car does not turn over with a VATS issue.

Tell us about your fuel pump install. Did you use a new GM pump/sender unit?

It was cranking with no fuel gauge reading or pressure so i thought it would be the fuel pump. Replaced it with a Precision fuel pump from oreillys and still have the same issue as before. Replaced fuel pump relay and ignition relay. Other than bypassing the vats im out of ideas.

Pull out the fuel pump relay. Jump it with a wire to see if the pump kicks on.

If it does, then its your PCM. If it doesn't, you have either another bad pump or wiring issues (likely ground).

Have you checked to make sure ground wire is secure? I can't remember exactly where fuel pump ground is on the F-body, but I had a similar issue on a C5 Vette, engine would crank but would not fire and no pressure at the fuel rail. The problem was the fuel pump ground near the left rear wheel-well was not tightly secure. I tightened the ground wire and problem solved.

Jump it with a wire? I have no idea what that means. I have little electrical knowledge.

Yes, pull the relay out and connect a small wire to the terminals where the relay plugged into. If whatever you're testing works with the wire in place of the relay, then it's a sure way to know that the relay is faulty. But DO NOT use the wire permanently in lieu of a relay, only use the wire to test.
Also make sure to check the ground is secure if not done already.

A relay is basically an electric valve or gate. Power goes in one side and out the other, but most of the time that valve is shut. The PCM opens this valve and lets the power flow through.

Pull out the relay. Find the 2 slots where power comes in/goes out. Take a short piece of wire (thick enough to run a fuel pump), and strip both ends and jump those terminals. You'll be bypassing the relay/PCM and sending power straight to the pump. If it doesn't come on, then you have a problem with the pump or its wiring. Since your gas gauge doesn't work properly I'm going to assume its a ground.

If the pump DOES kick on, its either a bad relay, or the PCM not turning the pump on.

Thanks to all who shared their knowledge and advice. I'm a very inexperienced wrench turner. It tuened out to be a ground wire on the back of the drivers side head. Rookie mistake. Thanks again.
