Sorry, I tend to agree with JRP. Z28s are a dime a dozen and actually have the lowest resale value of any of these LS1 f-bodies. For a clean '98, even with those miles, I'd only offer $10.5K, especially with a dent in it.

Have you checked the classifieds here? Personally, I'd rather buy from another enthusiast that has the history of the car than a dealership. Plus, don't hesitate to make a deal on a long-distance car, one way plane tickets are relatively cheap and the drive home is fun in a new toy.

Look on Ebay I saw 2001's go for that price. I wouldnt pay more than $9K for the car but thats me, I think if your gonna spend 12K look at a 99+

That price is way to high. I am in the car biz, you should not pay more than $9,000 for the car with the dent already fixed. You can find a better deal than that. I gave $13,000 for a 2000 Z28 with 10,000 miles in "like new" condition on it a year ago. The dealer probably has 6 to 7 grand in it. Make an offer and walk away if they do not take it. You can find a newer car for a lower price.

sounds good, but the rule I've followed with the last 6 cars I've bought is my initial offer is 3K under what they are asking, and never close for more than 2K thatn what they're asking...that is, if you afford to risk losing the car to someone else, IF there is a risk of that.

Thumbs up Carfax!!!

If I were you, I would definitely go to carfaz and punch in the vin number and see what is up with the car. It's worth it for you in the long run. (OR, you could buy my '99 HUGGER ORANGE SS with white leather interior with ALWAYS garaged, never sees water, unless getting a bath and doesn't even know what snow is!!! PLUS, the car is MINT with no even 14,000 miles on her.) But seriously, you should do the carfax thing!!!!!! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

dont let the dent sway your decesion in anyway. the last two years ive put my car in storage i have gotten dings. find a good body man and they will drill a hole in your rear fenderwell, then roll the dent out. i cant even see where they were. $50 to fix a dent is pocket change.
still $12k is a bit high for a 98

i really think it depends on the area that you are in. usually down south or in the midwest there are really good deals on f-bodies. however, with people like me in the northeast, it's harder to find them around here. hence they are priced higher..

Amen to that. Most V8 sports cars are hard to come by used up here.

The only thing wrong with the car is that is has a dent about the size of a golf ball on the left rear fender, which they said could be cheaply repaired by some guy who they do business with. I took the car for a test drive and the engine is extremely smooth, and there were absolutely no squeeks or rattles when I went over bumps in the road. My question is, if you guys were in my shoes how much would you be willing to spend and what would you offer the dealership? I have the cash but am hesitant to spend $12,---(plus tax) on a six year old car. Help me out guys. Thanks
Dude thats a steal!!! I just bought my 99 Z28 last week for 15K and it had 44K miles on it. Round here in Cali, 6-speed Z28/SSs with 45K miles or less are costing NO LESS than 18K. So even I got a deal

i hope your only talking about new f-bodies. go try and find a first gen for less than 10k... unless its a project. matching numbers 1st gen and some 2nd gen go for as much as $50k-150 easy. but if ur gonna say that new f-bodies have shitty resale values, thats like that with all cars, the moment you take it out of the dealership the values drop considerably.

obviously im talking about 4th gen fbodies. depreciation affects all cars but 4th gens drop like a stone compared to say a honda/toyota. have you looked at the prices of 3rd gens and 4th gens even in "great" condition sellers are only getting pennies on the dollar. a car is only worth what someone will pay for it.

I think this year they became "collectors" cars. Seriously, check out AutoTrader.com and do a search for V8 6spd Camaros, you'll be shocked at how much they cost now (98-02, 8 Cynlinder, Manual Tranny, <45K miles):

for me, i didnt know people in the scene to help direct me to good deals, and i had almost no time at all to devote to cruising around and checking out used car lots and whatnot. but i ended up getting a close to mint '98 ws6 m6 fully loaded with 28k miles for 14k. i looked for a looooong loooong time before i found one at blue book prices. around here, and the places i was looking (autotrader, carmax, some used lots, etc) loaded ws6's dont go for cheap at all.

when i found that car i considered passing on it and waiting for a better deal but it was the cheapest car i had looked at so-far so i bought it. it still had the cags hooked up, and looked unmolested besides a amp wire running to the trunk. later on i found the maf had been descreened and i then started looking for other signs of modding but i havent came across anything besides that.

i would tend to agree with the guys saying thats a little high for a z28, but if its the cheapest you have found so far and your horny for a rig i say get it.
