"Stay away from platinum plugs - they heat up fast and stay hot causing pre-ignition." This months article about LS1 Do's and Don'ts in either Super Chevy or Camaro Performance - can't remember!

I'm not sure how many miles it will last but it should be good for 5 years or longer. Depends on your driving conditions. I had Bosch Platium +4's in my car for 7 years before I switched them for NGK.

I don't know too much about GM products. For performance, I don't use GM. Too pricey. You can get better parts cheaper from other places. I changed out my stock wires for Taylor 8mm.

i have access to a computer at work and i looked up what plugs i should use for my 99 z28 ls1 this is what i found.

INFORMATION ON NEW SPARK PLUGS AND GAPPING:
chevrolet camaro with 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L, OR 6.0L V-8 ENGINE (VINS V,P,T,Z,G,S,N,U -- RPOs LR4, LM4,LM7,L59, LS1, LS6, LQ9, LQ4)

A new spark plug has been released for use in the above vehicles. the new spark plug has an iridium tip instead of the current platinum tip. due to the different tip design, the gap of the spark plug has also changed. the new spark plug, P/N 12571164 with AC Delco P/N 41-985, is gapped to 1.01mm (0.040 inches) when the spark plug is made. the spark plug gap is set during manufacturing and should not be changed or damage to the spark plug may result. any new spark plug found to not be properly gapped should not be used

these are the plugs i used for my car, so far so good...

just thought you guys might want to know,,,

yep what he said,go with the msd 8.5 super condutors.
when i got my msd wires i read them with my fluke meter and they all read at
28 ohms, a heck of a lot better than the stock carbon strand 700 ohm wires.
and stick with the ngk tr55, or tr6 plugs, or if you have the money go with denso irrideum plugs.
hope that helps

No, NGK....there are many reasons for this.

AS for letting people getting recomendations from mechanics......STOP!! People do not understand this motor, it is unlike any small block chevy has ever produced, and requires certain things other motors don't. Another thing is magazines are dumb, and so is Horsepower TV. These people seem to go on here, and find what the LS1 know it alls say not to do, and do it. But that is a whole different story.

The NGK plugs are absolutly fantastic, and DENSOs are not as compatable with the LS1 motor for some reason. If these plugs are fireing in the fastest LS1s in the world, why can't they be in ours? They are proven time and time again thay can support power, and deliver spark strenght correctly and effeciently.

To the guy who said "Should i consider changing the wires as well? My mechanic friend said the wires look good" unless your friend has x ray vision i dont think u can look at wires and say they are good. Its standard when u do plugs, u do wires. I went with the NGK TR55 and MSD 8.5 wires plugs from thunderracing.com and wires from jegs.com

Also to the guy who says "The NGK plugs are absolutly fantastic, and DENSOs are not as compatable with the LS1 motor for some reason." FYI Denso is made by NGK, they are good plugs seems the douche bags in the factory dont gap them right/consistent half the time.

Indeed, I talked to NGK directly and the techs said go for the irdium plugs. They also make two steps colder if you want to run NOS or some kind of induction. They said the standard replacements will be ok for a 100 shot of NOS. If you go higher than that, it's recommended that you change them for the one or two steps colder if you decided to go with more than a 100 shot. I will see if I can find the other part numbers, if not I will call them again and post them.

Isn't the platinum plugs an improvement over standard pulgs because platinum plugs resist wear better and preserve its gap and spark quality longer, thus matinting optimal performance much longer?
