Default top speed?

Does anyone know what the actual top speed is for a stock 00 ws6 with an A4 and 3.23 gears? I thought I read somewhere that they are governed at like 165 or something like that?

when you say z-rated, are you talking about the tires?

Ok then my car will do the 162 because I have gotten it up to 145 before I let off. Also I have seen those HPP3 that say they take off the top speed limiter.....how fast would it go then?

Depends on how much power u make... but i doubt it would go much past 175-180 unless ur making some power... i could be wrong though...

I think anything over ~160-170 tops on a stock car is not going happen, you'd be in overdrive after ~135. I once took mine to ~140 with just FRA and cat-back, which is the very bottom of overdrive, and it was definately fighting to accelerate a lot more in fourth gear (OD) than it was earlier on so I let off in ordder to limit my exposure to those insane speeds. Maybe someone who has tried will find this and chime in? Also, did you search first?? I KNOW this has been discussed before, I just don't remember. BTW: you cannot remove the speed limiter. What you can do it move it really really hihg, like 240 or something so it's still technically there.....i think....

Stock LS1s will do 162. This happens in 4th gear for A4s, 5th gear for 6-speeds.

If you raise the limiter (shuts off fuel at limiter) these cars will do about 170 before aerodynamics hold them back. Corvettes with the same power will do about 180.

When my Formula was completely stock, back in 1998, I did this more than a few times on an open stretch of highway late at night. SCARY. Of course, it was all in the name of testing for everyone else that was scared, as nobody was certain how fast they would really go stock. haha

Last night i raced a mach 1 and got him the first time to about 135 then we raced again he got me from the start then i started pulling at like 140 i was going strong about to pull past him( definetly pulling harder than him) then my limiter kicked in. but my car was still pulling really hard b4 it kicked in and i had a lot of rmps to go.

As far as top speed i asked this question and got like 180 to 190 with my 3.42 and w/ 2.73s they said like 218.

aerodynamics has a lot to do with things as was stated earlier- it's my understanding that it works in an exponential manner, so while it may not take too much HP increase to make your top speed go from 140-180, it'll take an even greater amount of HP to make your top speed go from 180-200. I may be wrong though :dunno:

This site has a good calculator of theoretical top speeds for various transmissions and rpm ranges. Of course, that says nothing of the power needed to achieve them.

Your correct. Just like et's: easy to make a 14 sec car go 13's, but for example much harder to make a 10 sec car go 9's.

That may be opening a 'can of worms'.

However, I have read more than once that the TA has better areodynamics.

I asked a similar question on the Road racing section & those fella's told me if I lowered the car 2" added 3.42 gears with my RWHP & weight & 1/4 traps that it should do 195 if anyone would have ***** enough to hold it there that long. You could search that post & get the details I may have left out, Fred
