Default Stupid ?

I have a 2000 Camaro ls1
my question is why does this forum call it the gen 3 if the Camaro is the 4th gen? Im looking to buy a lift plate to remove the block but there asking if it's a 3rd or 4th gen now i know the car is a 4th gen is there a reason the forum says its a 3rd gen? Which plate should i get then the 3rd or 4th gen plate?

Because this isn't a Camaro-only forum. They are talking about the generation of small blocks. The LS1 started off Gen 3 GM small blocks.

Because it's by SBC genereration

92-97 LT1 engine = Gen II

97-04ish LS1/6 + truck variants = Gen III

LS2/3/4/7 + truck motors = Gen IV

Current Direct Injection LT1/4/5 + DI truck 5.3/6.2 (and 4.3 to be accurate) = Gen V

Regarding the lift plate, Gen 3/4 have the same valley cover bolt pattern. Possibly Gen V too but I have no direct experience so don't want to post the wrong info. In any event, Amazon has a few different LSx lift plates for like 50-60 bucks, here's the one I bought and am using for my current swap project:

I was looking at one from all Star performance from Amazon and it asked whether 3rd or 4th gen so I assume 3rd gen would be the correct one?

Always get a 3rd gen lift plate. It will also fit a 4th gen.
Most 4th gen lift plates will only fit a gen 3 if you remove the cam and oil sensors first.

ok thank you I ordered one from Amazon. Now another quistion lol. I ahve Everything off the block and i mean everything minus the oil pan and transmission how hard is it to remove the engine? I have the radiator and ac and all that already out of the way. From what I read its pretty easy just have to take your time. And I dont want to remove the trans with it at the same time unless its easier so how many bolts roughly is there attached that i would have to remove to just get the engine out?

So I just did this last weekend on my TA. I pulled the trans but left the heads on, everything else off the block and radiator out. Using the front most hole on that lift plate allows you to really have it tilt up with a second pair of hands and get it out from under the cowl. I think you can probably do it with the trans connected but it's going to be a lot tougher. You're gonna have to get it near vertical.

Without the trans connected itsi basically just the 2 motor mount bolts to yank, and then you can remove the engine. If the trans is still connected youd need to unbolt it from the trans crossmember.

Btw if you do pull the trans and flywheel/flexplate, put the flywheel bolts back in the crank as the holes aren't blind and oil will come pouring out when you tilt the engine. Ask me how I know, lol.
