Default manual/gas mileage

I am new to driving stick, I have only had my 95 z28 for almost 2 months now and I need some help on what are some ways to try and keep gas mileage as high as possible, because I live in ca and gas is 2.50 a gallon I am trying to get the most for my money, thanks

Shift early (2500 rpms or less), skip gears whenever possible - ie go from first to 3rd or 4th, anticipate stops and let of the gas to coast, treat the gas pedal as if there were an egg between your foot and the pedal.

It's not 20-30-40-50-60 exactly but that is abou tright. There is a section in your Owner's manual that covers when you should shift your manual so that you get the best gas mileage. It lays out mph shift patterns for you, so just give it a read.

I've also got an M6 95 z28, and in regular daily driving I hardly ever see more than 2000 rpm on my tach (except when I'm in "aggressive" mode ). I don't skip any gears when shifting, just because I'd have to rev higher in the lower gear to be able to stay above idle in the higher gear. I try not to run the engine below 1000 rpm, and def not as low as idle speed.

I think the best tip for lower gas consumption is to accelerate slowly. If you give it lots of throttle from a green light, that will burn huge amounts of fuel. Just accelerate gently and smoothly (like the minivan drivers do), keep your tach under 2000 rpm, shut off the engine if you're idling longer than 60 seconds, and change your air filter frequently

my tach rarely sees 2000rpm, unless i get pissed off at those stupid *** minivan drivers. then it may see 4500rpm's rather quickly. but seriously, for best gas mileage spend as much time in the highest gear possible for your speed, but accelerate calmly to get there. i skip gears all the time, and my car seems to not mind driving around at 1400rpms most of the time. my wallet DEFINITELY enjoys it. my car needs a tune up and i can squeeze 300 miles per tank in city driving. i'm plenty sure w/the tune up she's getting this weekend that will increase a good bit.
