Default Hatch Release question.

I've got a sub in my t-top storage area and the only way to steal it is by using the hatch release button. Say my alarm is armed, someone breaks my window, opens the door(which normally activates the switch), and pushes the hatch release button- will the hatch open? I was considering installing a switch to turn the hatch release off just incase.

Thanks!

i think it will, you should have the alarm cut power to that switch as well as the ignition, or simply use a stealthy kill-switch to cut power until you need it.

or just unplug the release button. I am thinking that since you have a alarm that you can either use the remote for the alrm or just go to the back of the car and use the key if needed. Seems like a little extra work for the added convience of knowing that it is harder to open the trunk for the crook.

Just pull the connector off of the switch, and use your remote to pop the trunk. FYI, opening the door wakes up the BCM, which enables the ground signal supply to the switch.

if the thief had half a brain he would just break the glass on your hatch and use a more direct route of relieving you of your subs

I actually gave it a try. I should have thought of it sooner. I armed my alarm. Unlocked the door manually, and I tried the hatch release. It doesn't work when the alarm is armed. Phew! Convenience and security!

I would as well find a way to disable the release button when you're away from your car. Or...you could sell your car for a stripper like mine and then there is no hatch release button. I hate that sometimes, I have to turn my car off and get out with the keys in order to open my hatch.

the BCM and the alarm should disable the hatch button when its armed.

my hatch button now controls my garage door opener so i don't know for sure, i disconnected it the day i bought my car.
