Default Getting depressed...

Well, in a nut shell, so far every mod i've done to my car this season has pissed me off and highly dissapointed me. Actually i'm just exaggerating b/c i've only done 3 or 4 mods...and i guess i'm happy w/ 2 of them SFC's and Rear LCA's/Panhard rod....BUT my y -pipe everyone i'm sure already knows the story, (still leaking by the way, havnt figured out a way to fix it yet) and this past week i tried replacing my tranny mount and was recommended the prothane polyeurathane mount from thunderracing...well, here's my problem....i put the new mount in, and start up the car...first thing i hear and feel is a knocking from my tranny into my shifter....from cranking the car i guess the shaking made it clunk...i guess no biggy? So i take it for a spin to make sure it did away w/ the clunking i was hearing from under my shifter...well my car is still too damn slow from not getting a tune and having an exhaust leak from 5 diff. spots of a ypipe...so i dont know if it even would have knocked before i did the new mount. But anyways, around 2000 rpms...even my g/f noticed the car was vibrating A LOT more than normal. Is this b/c the mount is installed wrong...maybe bolts not torqued right? I read the mount should be torqued to 77ft lbs but last time i did that it stripped the threads...so i torqued it to 60 and all other bolts to 55. Also going around a bend at a slow slow speed in first gear i hear a whinning coming from underneath...maybe my rear b/c the tranny mount is holding the tranny properly causing the drive shaft to be off in the rear end ?? What do you all think? At this point i have more fun driving my 93 jeep cherokee. HELP!

well the bushing is causeing the vibration throughout the car.. also check your engine mounts, im not a fan of the poly bushings, but some love them and swear by them. the whine coming from the rear could be because you need to change the rear fluid and put more limited slip additive in it, mine whined and i changed it and put a bottle of the limited slip additive in it and it went away..

goodluck, with the ypipe leaking. im assuming its a stock y? if so id replace, no sense if fixing a pos, because then all you will have it a glorified pos.

ugh...thats why i recommend installing an OEM or 1LE tranny mount. You didnt torque down the bolts while the tranny was jacked up, right? if you did, you probably bent the screw and will break off anytime soon because you tightened it without any load.

Good Luck

Uh ohh...well, i did torque w/ the jack under the tranny, but here's the thing, i never actually moved the tranny, i just placed the jack under it to support it where it was when i took the old mount off...then put the new one on and torqued it. Should i redo it and not have the jack there at all when i tighten??

thats ur problem right there man...picture this: You have the tranny being supported WHILE you torque the bolt...ok, now you remove the jack and extra stress is being placed on the mount/bolt...and extra stress = bolt breaking in half(happend to me). Once you get the cross member on there, there is no need for the jack to hold the load.

I hope you have an extra bolt, cuz i can almost guarentee you that you just bent the bolt.

- Adrian
EDIT: You will still get vibration due to the stuffer mount, thats why I suggest purchasing an OEM mount.

just buy some header wrap and wrap the hell out of your y-pipe.. it will atleast make it so you can hear the leak anymore! haha worth a try isn't it? check ebay for it.. they sell large quantities of it!

Your tranny is gonna vibrate the car until --- 1) you replace that mount with a softer one or 2) it finishes the break-in period.
