Default Heads 243

Hi fellow ls1 guys, question for you pros what do you guys think of these heads?CNC Ported LS1/LS6 243/799 Cylinder Heads .650 Springs 2.02/1.59 Valves. I want to upgrade with a stage 1 cam maybe stage 2. Are these heads overkill? I don’t have a stall yet .

Outstanding for a stock OEM designed cylinder heads that 20+ years old. NA, a quality set of ported & prep'd LS6/243/799 heads is capable of supporting 500+ whp in an LS1/LS6 application.

There are also a fair number of mediocre ported LS6/243/799 heads available that aren't quite as capable but are still decently good. One should do the research first.

See my sig. I have no numbers on the setup YET, but it rips.. The Ghost cam is aka Summit Stage 1.
Be sure to upgrade to high quality lifters and springs. I went with Johnson 2110R and PAC dual springs.

so you saying buy? I’m not planning to go near 500hp, 400 is max maybe stage 1 cam should be a good setup?

You should also look up on here or search Google for "MAVN Ghost cam build" and see what he all did. It's a great thread with lots of dyno tests etc etc.

Sure it's SUM-8715

Who did the heads? Budget?

I'm not much for recommending an unknown head porters. We don't really have much information on your build to make specific comments etc. What sort of intake manifold and exhaust will you run etc? Sometimes a set of fast as cast Trickflows is a great all-around solution.

I know from experience and running Total Engine Airflow has excellent LS6/243/799 and 5.3/706 heads.

Definitely check out Mavn's Ghost Cam build like Tyler mentioned.

Sounds like a nice set up with the AR headers & Ls6 intake plus other mod's. There definitely a lot of hp to be gained with a cam swap & set of quality ported LS6 cylinder heads.

I'm not a fan of buying critical engine parts like cylinder heads on flea-bay. I'd pass of them and buy from a reputable vendor with proven results like Total Engine Airflow, Texas Speed & Performance, FED, Mamo Motorsports, WCCH, Katech etc are a few that come to mind.

i agree... do not purchase products like ported heads on ebay unless it is sold by Summit or Jegs or the like. You will not really know exactly what you are receiving. There has been a lot of R&D into porting of LS heads. Support the companies that did the research not the fly-by-night copy catters and chinesiem parts. Sorry just my 2 cents. Ah not sorry

I will say thirds on that one.. Texas Speed did a great job for me and is a cheaper option than say TEA. But TEA is one of those pinnacle cream of the crop companies for good reason.

When I was researching parts for my engine build, I contacted many different companies to get information about their product and how it would perform with the rest of the combination.
You can't get that from an Ebay purchase or other internet parts sellers.
Guys...for "bigger" purchases please consider buying from a reputable seller, manufacturer, builder, etc. You will receive customer service if you should ever need. I'm not trying to slam or berate anyone for saving money by purchasing a cheaper product as I like saving when I can. I have learned this lesson before trying to save $$$.

I bought a set of 243’s for 200 bucks and sent them to Texas speed and came out amazing, felt like I got every penny of my 1700 dollar investment. Can’t beat CNC port and polish at TSP’s prices. Went 2.02 1.57 on my 243’s on 5.3 stroked to a 383. Like others stated good for 500+
