My 200k LS1 has used oil from the beginning, but I've noticed that oil consumption is greater with thinner synthetics like the ones you mention.
From your pic, it looks like you're in a warm climate - perhaps, Arizona, SoCal, or South Texas. I run Rotella 10-30 in the hot Kansas summers and have less oil consumption with it than with the thinner synthetics or synthetic blends.
Yes. I used (Philips 66) TropArtic (now called Shield, I think) synthetic blend for years because could get it at Sam's Club for $2 a quart. And it has some good base stocks in it. A lot of LS guys shy away from Mobil 1 5-30 because it tends to the thinner side. Pennzoil Platinum 5-30 gets good reviews; I'm running it currently but I notice consumption is up.
Eurospec Castrol 0-30 synthetic. Mobil 1 0-40 or even 5-40 are good for stouter viscosity. But you're going to be fine with 5-30 whatever in that climate.
