Default Looking to add performance mods to my 2001 T/A.

Is there anything else I need to get or have done when dropping in a higher stall torque converter into my 2001 TransAm? I'm looking to add a more "kick-in-the-pants" feel to my ride when I step on the gas, and was told a higher stall TC is what I'm looking for. And also to replace the stock gears with ones with a lower gear ratio. Since I'm not looking to spend a whole lot of cash right now on my car (about $1000 or so), I think I'll go with the TC for now and do the gears later.

Note that this car is my daily driver, and I really don't plan on racing her at the track in the near future. Of course, I say that now...

Can anybody recommend a decent TC for my purposes? The Vig3200 seems to be a popular recommendation, but I was told I want at least 3,600rpm stall. What happens if I go even higher than 3,600? Is there some point of diminishing returns the higher up I go?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me.

TC is a great mod for an A4. IMO get a trans cooler and trans temp guage.

Also, the brands will differ in price and such. Read in the Automatic section for what others are saying and why they did what they did.

I decided to go TCI 3000 or 3500 stall but still undecided (still not sure when and if I will swap my CAM).

Gears... from 2.73 to 3.73 (do not go 4.10 in A4, most will agree with this). For the 1/4 to get a tenth or so goto a 3.73 (not sure how much you will gain). Read the gears and axle area for feedback to make your decision.

Again, for myself I am sticking with 3.23 to keep my top end.

Allot of information and allot of different ways to get to where you are going. Bottom line, get as much information before you decide and then make a better decision the first time.

Happy Modding

Ya, the recommendation I got for gears was 3.73.

What would the purpose for the trans cooler and trans temp guage though?

I am doing it to insure the trans does not over heat and to keep it monitored.

The trans cooler is 100.00 or less and the trans guage I got was 50.00 so a 150.00 insurance policy for the transmission.

to make sure you don't overheat your transmission (premature failure)...i would imagine the stall would cause the transmission to heat up a lot more than normal...
