It's VERY rare someone gets banned here. Usually just trolls who only come to start trouble. I think I test the waters sometimes, but I never really know how certain people feel about it. Nonetheless... back on topic...

BTW depending on what your future intentions are a 97-98 motor isn't always a bad thing. I got a complete 98 C5 motor for about $1000 minus the accessories that had only 28k on it. For that kinda deal I accepted the thinner cylinder liners being I have no intention of installing new pistons anyways. If you are doing a swap then year doesn't have as much to do with it as does mileage and cost as far as I would be concerned unless you are dealing with the smog *****. If you are doing a head and cam swap to the motor like I was then finding a good set of used valve covers will run you about $50 or so, (psst, I got my valvecovers for $10 and a water pump with about 1k on it for about $35 so you can get good deals if you shop around). Little things like that is what you want to consider, but it could also be cheaper to get whole complete running motor. If that is what you want then you want an 01-02 motor no questions asked as far as I would be concerned because of the LS6 intake. That right there is $400 you didn't have to spend. Anyways best of luck man.

VIP1, your "correction" might have been valid had the original poster asked about buying an f-body. But, he is shopping for an engine/tranny. Therefore the 97-98 LS1 are basically the same, categorized by the block sleeves and head design.

I'm not pissed, just thought your comment was on the smart *** side. No biggie!

I guess I miss-read the original post (I have since re-read it and see the error in my ways).

Cool.

V8r,

What kind of car are you installing this in? The Conversions & Hybrids section can really help you out in installing it in various vehicles.

The LS1 Info link in Jrp's sig details the changes in the f-body over the years (1998-2000) which includes some engine changes. It doesn't show changes to the Corvette LS1 though.

Aren't the cams different in the Corvette compared to the F-body?

..not that you should leave either of them in

Yes they are different. They are different from certain year fbodies even but what years I'm uncertain. I know the 01-02 fbodies use a 5.3 truck cam but other than that I couldn't tell you.
