The only part that you need to purchase outside the kit is injectors. The kit is 4500, injectors are around 400, and an ls1edit tune is 300 + 100 per hour on the dyno. Personally I think the tti is the better value and performance, whereas you and many others, think the sts is better. Eh! To each their own.

Any Turbo will increase your gas mileage, but once you whomp on the gas your new increased fuel economy gets left at the light. A turbo car can suck just as much, if not more gas than a h/c car if you drive like a maniac. But then again you can do the same thing with any car if you drive like your on the track all the time.
And just for referance the TTi kit can put down 422hp and 500lbs/tq on its stock boost level of what I believe to be 6.5psi (might be wrong about the boost pressure). This, like the sts, was done one a pretty much stock ls1. Plus you have an intercooler and wastegate combination that allows you to go from 3psi-15psi. So a boost controller on a built ls1 could definatly give you alot more power than the sts.

Me personally, I don't like the idea of the turbo for MY car. Great power, reliable way to make it too. .... Just something about a turbo... I dunno, even w/ the GN , I still can't shake the feeling that they're made for small cars. I like the Supercharger idea better. And we can go round and round w/ the facts and numbers, but a supercharger sounds nicer, and still puts out hella nice numbers. Good luck on your decision man. Again, there are worse things in life than having $5k to drop on your ride.
