Default Cams?

Why are cams soooo expensive for our cars? I would really like to know. Is there something really special about our cams that makes them cost so much?

Other than the fact that they a hollow, where as the older SBC and most other cams are solid. So I would say that they cost the manufacters more to produce so like everything else the higher cost is passed down to us the buyers.
Not to mention the cost of R&D, new machines and tooling and the fact we are a relatively new market compared to other engines that have been around for many decades.

Supply and demand, mostly.

GM seems to have no problem selling hotcams for half the price of good aftermarket cams.
