Other than the fact that they a hollow, where as the older SBC and most other cams are solid. So I would say that they cost the manufacters more to produce so like everything else the higher cost is passed down to us the buyers.
Not to mention the cost of R&D, new machines and tooling and the fact we are a relatively new market compared to other engines that have been around for many decades.
