All 02 Firehawks are 345. The 01's are 335. The SS was 325 with optional 335 (exhaust) or 345 (exhaust and lid).

I've owned both and I'd swear my 96 Formula with A4 and 3.73s felt stronger (at least down low) than my 01 M6 Hawk with SLP longtubes, y-pipe and mini cats. I think if all you are interested in is some occasional stoplight gran prix, I think the LT1 is a great motor. Now if you are going to spend a lot of time at the track, (or if you don't mind getting into triple digits on the street) the LS1 pulls like mad at about 80mph. I'd almost swear my Hawk is quicker 60 to 120 than 0 to 60. I really enjoyed my LT1, and I put close to 90K on it without any engine related failures. The LT1 definately sounded better and I didn't have the piston slap and mysterious oil consumption that I have with my LS1.

Motor Trend is exactly where NOT to look for reliable 1320 times. They are terrible.

When looking at stock LT1/LS1 flywheel power ALWAYS, I repeat ALWAYS look at the VETTE ratings. Both LT1/LS1 F-bodies dyno identical (or higher) RWHP ratings to the Y-bodies. Therefore

LT1 = 300 FWHP
LS1 = 350 FWHP

Stock for stock LS1 > LT1

Ls1s are faster stock. Water is wet and rocks are hard.

Are these threads required every couple weeks to keep these boards alive? Car and Driver had a horrible 06 vette test.

Wow alot of cocky slow cars here.
my cold air/cutout only lt1 formy runs 13.4 at 101mph.
when my ws6 was stock it ran 13.0 at 107

dont count out lt1's so fast. i have hurt ALOT of stock ls1's feelings in my baby bird.

mod for mod it depends on how far you take it.....
Ask Joe Overton (fastest n/a lt1) after he beat mikey (fastest n/a ls1)
those 2 have been back and forth so many times now. but it has always been won or lost at the tree.

in bone stock trim the ls1 has the upper hand. but given the right driver and one or 2 key mods and you will be surprized

I have 3 buddies with LT1s. Its not even close once I get into 2nd gear. Actually only have 2 buddies now, the other one just purchased an LS1. I had a 94 Z and loved it though.

Even modified equally, the LS1 is faster. Not a lot of 300+ cfm intake port LT1/LT4 factory castings running around. That makes a 9 second na LT1 like Joe Overton's even more impressive than the 9 second na LS1s. I'm guessing he has aftermarket cylinder heads, or some serious valve guide & seat re-locating. LS1s can get there with factory castings. The LS1 is just a more advanced engine design. If it werent for the thin castings & sleeves, and only four head bolts per cylinder, it lend it's self even more to very high hp applications. Hope Joe is going to No problem, I would like to see his car run.

Take care, Ed

My friends 95 LT1 A4 Z28 had: Shorty headers,ORY,B&B cat back,UD Pulley,cold air kit,K&N,3:73 gears and a Locker.
His average times on E/T streets were 14.0-13.9 at 99-101 mph.
Then he sprayed a 200 dry shot and would run consistant 11.7 @117 mph.

Now my dead stock(down to the paper air filter) ran 13.2 @ 105 and with DR's and a 100 shot dry kit it went 12.3 @ 113,Now with all his mods done to my car EXCEPT gears and LOCKER, i run 11.62@ 117 on a 75 shot and on DR's too.
All races were at the same race track,by the way.

I like LT1 cars and i LOVE LS1 cars. both are great and both have earned some respect,but i would prefer a LS1 car anyday(between the 2 of them).

13.4 is quick, but it doesn't have any mph to back it up. On the street, that 101 mph won't get anywhere.

Not knocking the LT1 or your car, just throwing something else into that mix

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. That 101 trap probably didn't have ALOT of LS1 guys running for the hills. Or perhaps the LS1 guys might get smart and put on a couple of "key mods" to counter his "key mods".

Sorry for being a smarta$$. I'm just in one of those moods today. That is a hell of an ET though for a 101 trap. That 60' had to be impressive.

Well i dont really play much on the streets any more...
13.4 with a .5XX reaction time <----most everytime
is enough to finish first against most stock ls1's

MPH means nothing. Who crosses the traps first does

my ls1 does 118 traps (that more like it? )
