How much did you pay for your cam installed?
I have decided to go with a cam. I went to a local shop and they quoted me $1300 drive off. Any cam I choose, the install includes everything needed. All rods, retainers...everything. This price also includes a dyno-tune. Is that about normal? This price is drive off the lot. No extra tax. So to break it down...
1. Cam
2. All parts needed installed
3. Dyno-Tune
Final Price-$1300
Good or Bad.
Also my car is a daily driver... Should i go with a 228 or a 232? I have searched and both seem to be drivable size cams. But would like some direct imput on price of install, and which cam daily drivers seem to use and have maximum power.
Thanks,
David

If it's a good, reputable shop that knows LS1's and stands by their work it's probably pretty good. Cam installs are somewhat time consuming and the labor is expensive, that's why a lot try it themselves. Most people will tell you to set aside as much as $1,500 to do it right, but that usually includes a new timing chain and ported oil pump as well as the cam, springs, retainers, seats, seals, pushrods, install, tune......
To break it down, a cam kit will cost you $600-$800 (or more) depending. A dyno tune usually runs ~$400-$500, and the labor can easily be the extra $300-$500 it would take to make that all total $1,300.

Breakdown:
Cam: $360
Pushrods: $100
Patriot Gold Dual Springs: $300
Double Roller Timing Chain: $100
Tune: $75 (but a friend already had HPTuners for my year)
Dyno Pulls: $60
Install: Free except for a few busted knuckles!
Total: Just short of $1000.
So if you really get it for $1300 and it includes things like a new timing chain, and a nice set of dual valve springs with titanium retainers, then I'd say you are getting a good deal.

Check JRP's sticky there's an LS1 How to .... you can change it for yourself.
Others are saying the same. (I've never done it.)
But before you start modding like crazy you should consider getting a rearend too YOU WILL NEED A NEW ONE SOON.
