Default Automotive Questions for take home final

Yeah I took an Automotive Fundamentals class this semester and we have a take home final, it's due tomorrow. I've got a couple questions left to figure out, some I have no clue, others I think i know but want to make sure on. Any help you guys can give me would be much appreciated. Thanks.

1. How much mechanical efficiency does the average internal combustion engine lose to internal friction?
a) 10% b) 25%
c) 90% d)100%
It's pretty obvious it's not c or d, cause that'd be ridiculously inneficient, but I don't know between the other two.

2. In the full-flow filtering system, what happens when the filter is clogged?
a) the engine is ruined b) the oil must be changed
c) the bypass valve opens d) both A & B

3. What is the major disadvantage of air-cooled engines for automobiles?
a) They operate at higher temps than liquid-cooled engines
b) there is no effective way to heat the passenger compartment
c) they are lighter
d) they warm to quickly

4. A pushrod is used in what type of valve train layout:
a) DOHC b) VTEC c) SOHC d) Pushrod
(Noone bash me on this one, I'm like 95% sure it's d but want to make sure)

5. The radiator heat exchanger removes heat from the _________.
( I think coolant)

6. Name three types of oil pumps.
( I know of a gear pump, and rotary pump)

7. The length of the stroke is determined by:
a) crankshaft throw length b) cylinder length
c) camshaft speed d) cylinder bore
(it's not c or d obviously, I think it's b)

8. The ingnitions system's primary goal is to:
a) start a car
b) multiply batvoltage high enough to jump a spark
c) provide a place to insert the key
d) none of the above

9. The oil pressure in a system cannot exceed a predetermined pressure. How is this pressure controlled.

10. The most common method of lubricating an automobile engine is:
a) pressure b) splash
c) combination pressure-splash d) adding oil to the fuel
( I think it's c)

11. The normal V-8 engine will have how many crankshaft throws:
a) 8 b) 2
c)4 d)16

12. A DOHC engine will have how many crankshafts:
a) 1 b) 3
c) 2 d) 4
(Again, like 99.9% it's a, but it's one of those things that I still want to ask about. I know DOHC is dual overhead cam, but just wanna check on this)

13. Explain the difference between gross brake horsepower and net brake horsepower.

(I emailed my teacher to figure out what they want on this, I assume they just want friction in the engine and the drivetrain loss before it gets to the rear wheels)

14. How thermally efficient is the average internal cumbustion engine?
a) 10% b) 25%
c)90% d) 100%
(Pretty sure it's b)

15. In the starting system, the gear that turns the flywheel is known as the:
a) gear that turns the flywheel
b) pinion gear
c) ring gear
d) synchronizer gear
( think it's c)

And for bonus: who won the 2004 F1 championship?
It was Schumacher right, didn't he win about all of the races?

And please no comments about how easy some of these are, I'm in the class to learn about this stuff because I don't have experience with it. Thanks for the help.

.........Another problem is that stock replacement filters can be quite restrictive to the flow of oil, especially as the filter traps more and more contaminants, blocking the mesh. Finally, because the stock filters are reslatively small, they can quickly become pulgged up with dirt and debris, allowing your oil to bypass the filter entirely if the filter becomes too much of a restriction. from of my Camaro books.

So question number 2. is C ?

This all I could find without taking an hour to search the book.

I also agree with My99z/28 ansewer to number 5. engine.
