I have no idea where you got that number from, but it is not a block casting number. The blocks casting number is an 8 digit number. It will be located on the rear of the block, just beneath where the head meets the block. a pic and more information on the block casting number Any block casting may have been used after its' introduction date...so a block with a casting of 12550592 (97-up) Could have been used in a 99 vehicle. FYI, there are no performance gains from block to block (the only differance is where and by whom it was manufactured), other than the cooling advantage of the ls6 which is explained in the above link.
12550592 - 97-up
12559378 - 99-up
12559846 - 98-up
12560621 - 98-up
12560629 - 99
12561168 - 01-up, this is an ls6 block is the only casting number for an ls6.
12562174 - 98-up
Here is some more information on block casting numbers, so you can find it quick once you get the number off the block. I found that the racecheep site is organized for easier viewing.

Thanks for the info, i got the eng as a crate mtr imported to N.Z by some one else and i am always ready as to whether someone has a pre 02 or not, i assume it is only to see if they have the LS6 intake.
