I paid $119 / month ($1428 yearly) from 2000-2003 for my '00 Z28. I was 24 - 27yo.
My Cobra is $180 / month down from $200 / month. It'll be $150 / month in July when a ticket drops off. I'm 28yo now.

Getting older and being married helps big time.

I am married, in my 40s, and have the following discounts: seatbelt, multicar, anti-lock brakes, anti-theft device, good driver renewal, and 5 year good driving. For my 2002 Trans Am my 6 month premium is $347.30 ($57.88 per month). I also have my VIN etched in the lower corner of each window - I don't get a discount for that but some insurance companies give a discount for that in some states.

Most of my driving is in my 12 year old beater and the 6 month premiums for it are $227.70 ($37.95 per month). The Kelly Blue Book web site says the value on this car is below $1,000 so I don't have collision coverage. Sure it is not as much fun to drive the beater but it keeps the miles down on my other cars and lowers the chance something bad will happen to them.

Advice: think about getting a beater 8 years old or older and adding it to your auto insurance policy. Then you'll get a multicar discount and you won't need rental coverage. Tell them the beater car is your primary car and that your nicer car is used for weekend driving and such. Consider raising the deductable for collision coverage for the nicer car. Try your hardest not to get moving violations or accidents.

I am looking to get a 96 Ws6, i asked my insurance company they said it be about 3500 a year, progressive said 3000.... And that to me is crazy. They charge me 2000 a yr on my grandmarquis 96' and the only charge me 1000 a yr on my 68 mustang.

That is full coverage, I have NO wreck (one ticket). and i'm 18 yrs old.

So if I baught this Ws6 my insurance a yr would be 6000 ish.

BUT if I switch all cars to secondary driver and have my mom as main it drops to 2500 ayr on all three. But she won't do that :-(.

Max 2000 a yr as long as you aren't the primary driver its cheapness. But once your primary driver they start charging out the ***.

I'm 22 and my insurance is only about $300 every six months with state farm. I have one point for an improper movement ticket (originally reckless driving) The key is to own another vehicle and set up your ls1 as a pleasure vehicle. My T/A is fully covered, and I now have insurance for two vehicles for less than the price of the trans am alone! My T/A and a piece of cavalier is only $550 every 6 months!

I'm 23, go through USAA, and have my 2001 SS and 2000 Tacoma on the same plan for about $1250 for 6 months

Alot of it depend on where you live, home owner, multi vehicle discounts, etc. I pay 156 a month. Full coverage on my 03 Monte Carlo SS, liability on my 80 Trans Am, and liability on the 98 Trans Am.

Think twice before dropping USAA. From what I've heard they are probably the best auto insurance company around. Call or e-mail other auto insurance companies for premium quotes first. No offense but with the history you mentioned the other auto insurance companies might give you quotes for premiums that will be higher than you are paying now with USAA - or they might reject you and not issue a new policy to you at all.

After reading posts to this thread as well as other related threads we can see that auto insurance premiums vary based on many factors and it can be hard to compare one person's premiums against another preson's premiums. Some of those factors we can't control (such as our age) but other factors we can control. Consider making a change here or there (such as raising the collision deductable or being more "careful" while driving) to possibly lower the premiums.

Remember, as the years go by we get older and the value of our cars decrease. To a point that translates into relatively more reasonable premiums.

Well I just got insurance again since I am picking up my 99 TA tomorrow. I am going to be paying $397 a month for full coverage on the TA and liability on my 90 Civic hatch.. I have 6 speeding tickets in the last 3 years but it should go down after I have insurance for awhile. I am going to be 24 next month.
