I have heard of un-molested tops spontaneously exploding. Sometimes it just happens...so they say. I heard a few people say it happened on the highway I think. If you do a search on google, I am sure you will find some people.

From: the land where cars repeatedly hit my bumper when I'm in the store...
it could be that the vibration of the car and the harmonics of the rushing air above just caused it to reach the proper high pitch frequency where it would shatter. it happens on bridges and buildings sometimes, they jsut fall apart for no reason, they can literally just turn to dust and fall apart. that's an act of god man. bizarre.

i saw that on mythbusters 1998Camaroz28
but what really ahppened is you looked to your right cuz you heard a roar...btw that black blur going by was me in my TA...instead of the saying i blew your doors off...i literally blew your ttop up when i passed
I was gone..before you could see my car in front of you eather...therefore leading to you believing it was spontanious.

My driver side flew off last summer. I had a thread about it. I was going about 60, rolled up my window, and it flew off and shattered. It was properly latched, but not locked.

probably vibration. resonant frequencies could do it. especially since t-tops dont really stay in too firmly.

I was driving around the other night and the lock on my drivers side T-Top fell out and hit me in the HEAD!!! If you take them apart there is a little piece of **** GM clip that holds it on. I need someone with a welder to tack it and I guess the other one back in tight! I was pissed!!
