I plan on buying a beat up RX7 and putting a LS1 into it as soon as summer hits. (Assuming ile have the money by then) I haven't seen any cons yet. (not saying that there aren't) but some pros:
Near perfect 50/50 weight distrubiution
Way lighter than a F-Body
Needs less money to run faster
It can handle like, well like a rx7
I could get a '02 F body for around 13,000
I can do the swap for a little more than half that (assuming I can find the right rx-7)
Let me put it to you in simple terms. 2600 lbs.+325 ft-lbs. of torque. You do the math.

a bone stock LS1 engine with a stalled auto runs in the low-mid 11s in an RX-7....
the third-gen ones look badass as well. if it's in nice shape, the LS6 RX-7 would be a pretty cool/unique car to have.

Ok first I would say go with the LS1 RX7 but that is personal preference.
Second NO CHANCE is he going to get or are you going to build a FD with a LS1 for $13000 let alone the $6500 that you seem to be dreaming about. Try more like 20kish for a FD with an LS1, I did mine myself and cost of the car included that is about what I have in it.
Third, a "bone stock LS1 engine with a stalled auto runs in the low-mid 11s in an RX-7". NOT TRUE. I had mine Bone stock stalled with a 3800 rpm stall run a BEST of 11.8 and I am the fastest I think with a stock car. Now I have put a TREX in it and run 11.4 and a 10.8 on a 120 shot.
Finally, it isnt any cheaper to run faster. Dont forget there is NO R&D for the LS1 RX7. Everything is custom which doesnt equal cheap.
The only real down fall is everything is custom. You cant call LG and order up a pair of RESEARCHED, PROVEN headers (just as an example). JTR finally is producing some but they arent "designed" they were just built.
If you want some good knowledge check out torquecentral.com there are a few of us over there that have actually done the swap and know what we are talking about and will give you facts instead of "Internet stories" that you may get on here. I have the same username over there.

I think the idea is pretty cool, and it'd certainly be the baddest RX on the block, but me personally.... I wouldn't want to deal with the head-ache. I think you have a mighty fine offer from 93LS1RX7. I'd take him up on it and see what's really involved.

The cost of putting in a 20b is big, expecially if you want to make power which means you have to turbo it. And the 20b is heavy and have fun trying to get parts for it when it inevitably blows up.
The ls1/2/6/7 is ideal for the RX7. If you are concerned about cost, buy an 86-88 RX7 (FC) and go from there. They are significantly cheaper and can be made a tad bit lighter.

that 11.40 was Brian Hinson from hinsonsupercars.com
He was running a cam and heads when he did that I think. Now he is in the process of doing a motor build.
I am also doing a stroker solid roller motor and going with a glide and hope to be well into the 9's.
The older body styles are the ones that have been running VERY fast for a while. The newr "FD" bodies from 93-95 are just recently getting swaps but they are very popular.
And to the ASSMUNCH that called RX&'s rice you need to do a little growing up. Just cause it is foreign doesnt make it rice. Ask any real car guy about the 93-95 RX7 and they will all say not rice. They can be "riced out" but I have also seen some Fbodies with HUGE wings, underglow and F&F stickers that are bone stock motors so there is Fbody rice out there too.

Its a pain in the ***, mazda parts are pricey, time consuming, WIRE GODAMN HARNESS, etc. But its pretty fun to pull up into those little parkinglot "import shows" and pop the hood

Now I have put a TREX in it and run 11.4
Your car is obviously not well suited for drag racing, considering you are almost 1000 lbs less and still slower than the f-body guys.
