Would it be better to have it jacked up by the differential and have stands on the axle, then the same w/the fronts (im not sure what they are called, i guess it has 2 axles??) so its still off the ground but the suspension is loaded?

I have to agree with some of the other guys, don't worry about the long term value, if it'll make you happier with the car, mod her. Either way, congrats on the new car!

There's really just no reason to go through doing all that work (and I'm sure it still can't be good for the suspension, even at half stretch). If he drives it a few times a year, the stock tires will never flat spot.

I regularly let my F-bodies sit for months at a time, 6 months sometimes more. NO flat spots, ever.

Again, that's just too much work to do for a car that's going to be driven from time to time, because there will be no issues with modern radials sitting for 6-12 months or even more. If you're planning to store the car for 20 years solid maybe, but if that's the case just get some cheap tires to set it on.

Exactly.

We do it because we love it.

That's what makes it worth it.

thats easily understandible, your 43 and i assume have had many a powerful street rod. tastes change overtime, at your age i dont think i'd want my own camaro. i'd probaly look into something more sedate and subtle like a GTO and just keep it relatively stock.

I Don't think I could ever leave one of these cars totally stock, but I can see the appeal behind limiting yourself to minor bolt-ons, to avoid the negatives that can come along with more serious mods......

The amazing thing about the LS1 is how you can add almost 100 hp for less than $2000 if you do your own work. Cam, Patriot Golds, Pushrods: $850; Headers $500; Electric Cutout $250; Air Lid $90. Sorry, the car may be fast stock, but it is INCREDIBLE with just a cam, headers, and a cutout. Best ride I've ever had and I'm an OLD (51) man.

It is possible to enjoy cars without spending money on them When I get the money I may build a race car but I don't see the point of making a daily driver pull double duty as a race/street car.

When I bought mine I was going to keep it stock so it would be original and to take it to car shows. After starting to go to car shows I realized other people were modding them and I changed my mine after that point, especially when I heard the exhausts being loud and sounding good. People have more interest in checking out a modded car instead of a stock one too.

Most, and I emphasize MOST guys in my position are driving Cadillacs or Lexuseses or the like. My old drag car ('70 Challenger) is in my basement up on jackstands and hasn't been out in years. I just got tired of spinning wrenches, busting knuckles, and rationalizing another thousand or two to go bracket racing.

One of the more successful bracket racers I know was deadly with a bone stock Ford Probe. And man were the high dollar guys PISSED! And still the winners payout was barely enough to cover the cost of the days racing.

To each his own.

Why am I here? Old habits die hard!

{edit} I did get me an air lid!
