you l98 guys should try the stealth ram. ive seen nothin but good things from it. it gets rid of the crazy spider and fucked up torque drop off. all it reall is is a weiand hi ram with injector bungs but damn its a nice intake.

You haven't read enough if you haven't heard anything bad about it. You have to put it together in a very specific order to make sure you do not get leaks because there are bolts that you cannot get to once it is all together and it will cause leaks that require complete disassembly. Its a great flowing/priced design, however it isn't the best when it comes to user friendly compared to the mini-ram.

Holley Stealth Ram is what I'll be going with when I get my 91/92 Z. AFR 195 heads as well, but I'm not sure on what I'll be doing with the cam. I plan on a 355 backed by a T56. Going to aim for low 12's and trap 115 while being very drivable and even more reliable.

What really bogs down the L98 is the TPI intake. Get a good Intake/heads/cam combo and you're soaring. The best combo in my opinion would be the Holley Stealth Ram Intake, Vortec Heads, and the LT4 Hotcam. If you get the Holley Stealth Ram Intake, you HAVE to get a bigger and better cam. The ZZ4 probably wouldnt be big enough to get the full effects of the Holley Stealth Ram. With this set-up you'd be running 12's easily.

LS1 > LT1 > L98
In stock form. Once you get to the modidng though, they all tend to even out. Choose which appeals to you best. The L98 has a ton of lowend grunt in stock form, the LS1 is a topend MONSTER in stock form, and the LT1 is somewhere in between. But like I said, they're all SBCs so they all have potential.

L98's low-end torque with most bolt-on mods is almost too much at times, but it does seem to fizzle out in 3rd gear, buying a holley stealth ram and a new cam give it more RPM and a better kick at higher speeds. The LT1 is kinda of similar to the L98, except it has more torque across the board, and a bit more of a kick at high speeds because of this. The LS1 is a god from a roll, even at speeds of 60+. The LS1 is the best in stock form, but the L98 and LT1 can be made pretty damn fast with the right mod combos.

There was a company that made 14 degree heads for the SBC's 325cfm max on the intake if I recall. I can't remember their name, but they were getting sick numbers from their combo's. Good prices as well. Add the holley SR,a big cam and they would make great competition for a LS1. I almost went that route but I bought my '02 instead.
