As far as the best, I couldnt tell you, but I put Redline fluid in mine and it seems to be doing a great job. Has 77K on it now. I cant remember how much you need, but if you do a search it should come up. Dont forget to but some GM anti slip additive or whatever the name of that stuff is, you can get it at any dealer and just add it in with the fluid you decide to get. The guy at the parts counter will know what your talking about.

At the shop we used gear oil from the oil supplier (you can probably pick it up @ Napa). I can't remember the name, but it came in a big black jug with a purplish label on the front. And like TrackBurger said, if the rear end requires it, put in the additive.
