I used to tell people that gave me **** about driving an auto that their sister complained too much when she had to lean over the shifter!

Guess that really doesn't apply on the F-bodies

Sorry, that's a common misconception. I remember several people who watched me row my 4 speed down the 1/4 mile express surprise that it wasn't an automatic. The shifts were quick and the revs didn't change dramatically.

In the end, in racing, more depends on the nut behind the steering wheel than on the vehicle. Autos are fine for drag racing. Sticks can be just as quick, but you have to think from a stick standpoint and modify the car as such. I was fortunate to have a few racing pals who have been stick guys for 30+ years. They showed me the tricks of the stick, so to speak.

I got my stick cause it's damn fun to drive. Once you've been driving a stick for awhile, you hardly notice driving in traffic (or at least I don't). I don't even have to think about it, I just listen to music and keep my eyes on the road... I mean seriously, driving a stick in traffic is hard? Please. Ya'll are acting like the clutch weighs 50 pounds and one mis-shift will make the tranny explode.

No, but with an auto you don't ever have to worry about bending a pushrod because of a missed shift.
