One reason could be that the GTO and firebird might be too similar to consumers. Wouldn't it be nice if te next SS camaro and the new vette be the top tier american sports cars, forget all those cobras and vipers and such.

Verdad Gallardo Oh really, i always thought the mustang outsold us because they were cheaper and the camaros/firebirds, along with corvettes got more and more expensive each year. I don't really know why they ended production, but i figured that was a good reason, after all, at the prices of f-bodies at the end of their run they were moving out of the price range of the market they were originally intended for.
the vette too, it was around 35,000 in 1998 right? Now its closer to 50,000. Were the changes from 1998 to 2004 (not including Z06 and the new c6) significant enough to warrant an extra $2,500 each year. The camaro may have been another story and production numbers could **** **** up too though...

I really think the Camaro was to expensive for those who wanted it and to impractical for those who could afford it.
I happen to like the Camaro's styling, but lots don't. I think GM's styling department has really been sucking lately.

....BUT on the alternative these cars are slowly remakin their debuts....like Rx7 now Rx8...and for those of u who dont know the SUPRA is COMING BACK!!...and it has a V6 option and V8 option..and i heard close to 500hp is in its range....and im prayin the camaro will get a new and improved LS2 
I actually heard the rx8 is just an intermediary and that there is a new rx7 which will be mazda's sports car. The sports cars are coming back though, especially with the import manufacturers. The GTO could even fall under this category.
