Programming 2001 Z-28 Remote
Hi everyone, nice to meet you (first post here)
My sister has a 2001 Z-28 & dropped & broke her key fob. Upon purchase from GM dealer, they told me required computer to program & charge is $80. I looked online & searched archives, but the "press and hold door lock while turning ignition 3 times" doesn't get any response for this car. Perhaps the earlier models?
Is there a way I can do this for 2001 car without resorting to dealer?

1) Pull the radio fuse (#17)
2) Cycle the ignition switch from OFF to RUN 3 times within 5 seconds. The body control module (BCM) will indicate that it is in a programming sequence by locking, and unlocking the doors and activating the hatch release.
3) Depress and hold lock and unlock on the first transmitter for up to 16 seconds. The door locks will lock and unlock and the hatch will release again to provide feedback that a transmission has been recognized. Wait for the door locks to unlock before proceeding.
4) Depress and hold lock and unlock on the second transmitter for up to 16 seconds.
IMPORTANT
Failing to wait for the doors to unlock before proceeding with the next step will result in one or both of the transmitters not being programmed.
The door locks will lock and unlock and the hatch will release again to provide feedback that a transmission has been recognized. Wait for the door locks to unlock before proceeding.
5) Turn the ignition OFF.
6) Replace the radio fuse (#17)
7) If at any time it is necessary to restart the procedure, turn the ignition OFF and proceed again with step number 1.

Thanks for the info, 98UltraZ! That's awesome.
I just got my Z28 a few weeks ago and it didn't come with a manual or remote. Do they all rate a remote or are some remote-less? It'd be nice to know before I spend any money...

Duh...answered my own question...Ain't GOOGLE great?
"The Camaro's model-year sales were 48,806 units. Calendar-year sales were 47,577. According to industry trade journals domestic model-year production was 45,630 coupes and 3,858 convertibles for a total of 49,218 units.
The Ste. Therese, Quebec plant built all of these cars (and all 32,157 Firebirds). Of the Camaro's built, 72.9% were equipped with an automatic transmission, 13.8% had a 5-speed manual transmission, 13.3% were equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission, 63.5% had a 3.8-liter SFI V6 engine, and 36.5% had a 5.7-liter SFI V8 engine.
100% (All) had power steering, 100% (All) (All) had 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS, 17.2% had traction control, 100% (All) had automatic headlamps (DRL's), 28.5% had a limited-slip differential, 100% (All) had steel-belted radial tires, 89% had power door locks, 86.1% had power windows, 100% (All) had reclining bucket seats, 55.7% had a power seats, 21.3% had leather scats, 100% (All) had dual front airbags, 100% (All) had tilt steering, 100% (All) had tinted glass, 100% (All) had manual air conditioning, 89% had cruise control, 100% (All) had delay windshield wipers, 46.6% had a ETR stereo cassette player, 15% had a name brand sound system with CD, 38.4% had another brand CD, 78.8% had an electric rear window defogger, 25.2% had a manual remote-control left-hand outside rear-view mirror, 74.8% had power rear-view mirrors, 27.8% had a power right-hand rear-view mirror, 29.5% had chrome styled wheels, 58% had aluminum styled wheels, 78% had remote keyless entry, 78% had an anti-theft device and 49.2% had T-tops.
A total of 47,624 new Camaro's were registered in the U.S. during calendar year 1998."
I guess I'll dodder off and look for an RPO code.
