Default Something seems off

Ok, last week I traded my 1996 Camaro Z-28 LT-1 M6 in on a 1998 Trans Am LS-1 WS-6 A4. Now pretty much everywhere that I've read has said again and again and again how much better the LS-1 is and how inferior the LT-1 is to the LS-1, but to me the WS-6 does not seem THAT much faster than the Z-28. At first I just figured that it was because the LT-1 was a manual and the LS-1 is an auto. From 0-60 the cars seem very even it is only after 60 that the LS-1 seems slightly better. Is this normal?? Both cars are stock. What are everyone's impressions of LT-1's vs. LS-1's? Is it because one is M6 and the other is an A4?? Please help, I don't get it!

A lot of people say that the low end on LT1's comes on so that it feels stronger. The low end on the LS1's is different so it may not feel as fast even though its faster stock.

Well I test drove both versions of the WS6 (A4 & m6) and the A4 felt considerably slower than the M6, dunno if that's true or not.......

the difference in rwhp from the m6 to a4 is anywhere from 6-12% more, but the shifts are quicker in the a4 with the disadvantage at the take off, around 40 the ls1 will pull away, and when all is said and done it will have a good couple of car lengths on a stock lt1 m6 or a4, its generally a better motor, and will respond to mods slightly better. ls1 to lt1 power difference is about 50hp to the wheels, (providing both cars are average, and not factory freaks or slugs) You will have to take into consideration that the car you have may put down less than average numbers if it is below average

I have a head/cam LT1 and a intake/exhaust LS1, both M6's.

While they put down around teh same power, the LT1 feels luck such a ******* monter and it kinda is, but when they are raced the LS1 takes it to the bank everytime. Its just that they are totally different cars, everything about them is different. A lot of what you feel is the tranny part, but a large majority is the powerbands of the cars, they are just so much different.

So even though the LS-1 doesnt really seem too much faster it probably is, it just makes the power in a different power band that the LT-1.

Yes. Also what kind of gears are you talking about? My g/f's 94 T/A is pretty much stock except for intake and catback, but she's got 3.42's and some kind of shift kit. My 98 Z28 has 2.73's, also pretty much stock, except for intake/exhaust, but when we race (which i can rarely get her to do ) She stays RIGHT with me until about 30/40 at which point I start walkin... we're both A4's.

redbird on a 98 TA A4, you more than likely have 2.73's if she feels kind of sluggish. Dont worry about it. Switch those SOB gears up to 3.73 and you'll be a mighty happy camper, I guarantee it.

Brad

EDIT: ALSO REDBIRD do a search, I think the gears you have are on the RPO code list on the inside/back of your driver's side door. I dont remember which ones signify the gears, but I think you can find out that way.

yeah my LT1 felt like it was a lot torquier down low, but my LS1 kicks its *** up top. but i know the feeling youre talking about. when i had my lt1 and my dad had his ls1 we'd switch and i was just cruising around town, never got into the upper powerband with it...i wouldve swore my LT1 couldve walked his ***, but thats just cuz it was down low. i know youre feeling, youre not unusual.

I had a 93 A4 Trans Am. My 98 Z28 M6 feels faster from a dig or a roll. I had a 99 Trans Am M6 same thing with that.

Thanks Diolar, it just feels sort of sluggish like you said, I will have to switch out for 3.73's. How bad will my gas mileage suffer?? The codes are GU2 for 2.73's and GU5 for 3.23's. I think.

not bad at all. From the guys I have talked to, the loss of MPG when switching to 3.73' was minimal. During daily driving of course. If you drive WOT often, well thats a different story.
