Default A4 Vs. M6

In a 98 WS-6 Which is better an A4 or an M6? How do they both perform at the track? I've looked for numbers on it, but is one faster than the other, or is it all up to preference?

This is one of those questions that we see at least once a month and will have varying reasons for one or the other.

Do a search there are some long debates on this one and some really good info.

But, I am sure we will see many reasons for one or the other here...

I will start.

A4 is good for the track because it shifts consistantly with no human error.

M6 is good for the street because you have 6 gears vs 4 gears and has more points to launch with good torque.

Then there are debates on which is funner or better for daily driving. Or the debates on if you are a skilled driver with a M6 will the A4 still be better at the drag strip. All good debates.

Dude, get the M6. IMO its not a sports car without a standard shift...

Unless you want to build a nine sec drag car

But seriously I think you'll have way more fun with the M6 and I wouldnt trade mine for anything.

That should just about sum up this thread.

When you get a sports car let us know

Sports cars don't have back seats and weigh 3500 lbs. But muscle cars do

A4 pros:

Easy to launch
no miss shifts
Easy on the stock 10 bolt rearend
Much better at the drag strip IF you have a 3000+ torque converter
easy to drive in heavy traffic

A4 cons

less mpg city & hwy
eats up more HP in the drivetrain
Has nasty dead spot at 35 mph with stock torque converter
less fun to drive (popular opinion)
not as fast from a roll as a manual

M6 Pros

More fun to drive
less HP lost in drivetrain
better MPG
faster from a roll
no dead spots
better for road course and autoX

M6 cons

Very hard on 10 bolt rear end
PITA in heavy city traffic
less consistant at the drag strip
Much harder to launch
possibilty exists for bent rods if the dreaded 2-1 @ wot misshift occurs

Hope that helps you.
