That was a dumb thing to say. Maybe he's being a smart consumer and wants to save himself thousands of dollars???

That's pretty dumb too. If he's being a smart consumer he would have already went with the Z28 just by looking at the price and not have bothered to ask here.

If you are modding it... go with the Z28. Remember ever SS was born a Z28. With just a few bucks I am sure you can make a Z look like an SS.

Car insurance may be different also.

No insurance difference because the VIN number doesn't contain any information other than Z28 or V6 coupe.

My insurance company sure knew it was an SS...don't know if they would have charged me any different.

It's not listed in the VIN though. It's listed as an option like an alarm or whatever. I think it's "handleing and performance package" IIRC. Not all insurance companies recoginize it either - nor do lending institutions.

He's absolutely correct here. They don't have a listing for an SS over a Z28 its all z28, and was actualy cheaper to insure than my Tahoe.

get the z. the ram air works better on the z. most people change the wheels anyway. plus the z is a little lighter.

What ram air on a Z, and the hood scoop on the SS although not terribly efficent, is still and improvement. Its been proven, slight as it was.
You know I've been nice here. I've not tried to put a Z28 down at all but for some reason every Z owner feels a need to put down the SS to make themselves feel better about their car? Dont get me started. The SS is a slight improvement on the z28, thats the way it is. Both start the same but one gets extra attention and performance parts from the factory the other has to be modded by the buyer. If you like the plain looks of a Z28 then buy it. If you like the hood and the SS package and markings then buy the SS. But in no way other than weight is a Z28 better. A stripped Z28 is the fastest of them all out of the factory due to weight redution and thats it.
This BS is ridiculous.

I purchased my 02 Z-28 about 5 months ago. I went with it for the price and miles which was $16,000 with 14K miles. Every SS I found they wated $19,000 on up with 2 to 3 X the miles on them. I did all my mods but it still was missing something.

Its at the paint shop right now having a factory SS hood and wing painted and installed. I also took the grille off and had them fill in the holes and add wire mesh in the inserts and paint the front clip. They are blending the front clip, hood and fenders so you wont beable to tell it was ever painted. I was very lucky and got a great deal on a factoy hood and wing new in the box and with the paint and everything it will run me about $1,800 for everything.

This all being said I would really consider going with the SS.

I use to get compliments on the car but mostly the way it sounded. Plus what did I hear " Man that would be bad AZZ if it was a SS "

Goodluck

Often times you can buy a Z28 cheaply enough to spend the difference on a couple starter mods and the SS hood/spoiler...

Just bought some chrome ZR1 wheels, the wide ones. I'll post pics after I clean the car this weekend hopefully.

What are you going with?

Yea, my insurance card simply says "Camaro Z28/SS" just like that.

you buy an SS because it was the highest model gm offered for the camaro. you buy a z28 because it was the cheapest way to go as fast as an SS. Of course an SS will cost more than a Z28. they did from the factory and they do now. The 1/4 mile performance is really dead even between the two, since the "ram air" only REALLY comes into effect at higher speeds. It all comes down to saving some bucks and moding like hell, or the prestige and look of the SS. A person who owns an SS will tell you there is nothing better, and a person with a Z28 will tell you your stupid to pay extra. What do YOU like. thats all that matters.

if i could do it over again i would get an SS becaus they look a little sexier with the hood, spoiler, rims, and SS badges stand out to. Plus SSs are a level higher.

yes but only if you leave the stock hood on it. I actually think the suncoast hood on mine looks much better than the ss hood (my scoop is wider at the back). I'd like to put the SS spoiler on it someday maybe but don't really care either way because it's the hood it needed. I also have a borla cat-back and whisper lid so my hp is up to the SS level too. Of course it doesn't have the SLP seal of approval, but wtf, gm made this a killer beast not SLP, SLP just did a few simple badges and bolt-ons some might even say it looks cleaner without the SS badges but I wouldn't mind them if it came with them. I won't add them though.

look at my sig pics for a little food for thought
