Default Help Building My LS1

For those who do not know..
I am planning a conversion this year for my tired 305TBI motor. I want an LS1 with a T56 tranny, That much I know.

Here is what I need from all of you....

What to do to the LS1?
Supercharger is a given for me.

I want a motor that plants my but and head in the seat. I also want to someday smoke the cobra with 600RWHP that brags in my area.... Smoking him on the DYNO is enough to make him cry.

To make 600rhwp the way you want to go, you are going to need heads/cam + full bolt-ons + charger.

Used LS1 w/ T56: $4k
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...979355996&rd=1

Better throttle body: $450

Intake Manifold: $800

Long Tubes: $850

I will assume you want true dual exhaust (H-pipe): $350

ATI Intercooled D-1SC: $5200

you will also need better injectors: $450

and an upgraded fuel pump: ~$350

Heads & Cam: $2500

Custom Tuning: $500

Total approximate horsepower: 600+ Rwhp (actual number is dependant on the detail of your set up)

Total approximate price (LS1 w/T56 + Mods): $15,500

That does not even address gears, suspension, ect.

You can put an ATI D1-SC onto a stock motor and make over 400 rwhp.

What's your budget?

I suggest heavy searching of the forced induction section if you want a blower for sure.

Man,that's a goood lookin' car! I had a 92' just like it! They called that color "Purple Haze" in the 1992 model year..........wish I'd have kept it! Good luck with your project, if anything BE PATIENT and make a plan then stick to it.

Awesome info....
I addressed the gears... Moser 12 bolt posi with 3.73 gears. I even addressed the fact I have to stop the car. I am going to upgrade to either BAER or Aerospace Engineering all the way around.

This has been a plan in the making so I took care of the suspension and wheels. The wheels will clear the brakes and the rear parts are from Lakewood technologies. The springs are Eibach. The shocks and struts are Tockio Illiminia Adjustable.

Am I going the right way?

Lets see.... I have a shop that is going to drop the motor and tranny in for $8500. Anything else is added. I am hoping to budget about 17k for the project. I am not buying a new motor and tranny.

You are going the right way in remembering to build the foundation first. Get the rear, suspension, tires, chassis out of the way first if possible. Something most don't do. Hell, I don't even do it. 100% stock suspension (minus FSB) and brakes here.

Dude that's an awesome looking 3rd gen!!! WOW, sick!! That's a good plan man, if you have the budjet, but you can also get a L98 350 and shove in a turbo, you can do that if you want to save on costs, or maybe even an LT1. Anyways i hope it works out for you and keep us posted.

I agree!!!
I have laughed at so many people for not planning. A buddy of mine is an import person...BLAH. He wanted a turbo and wrapped all the hoses in a heat shilding, then used regulsr houshold zip ties to hold it on. I never said a word.....

He just spent this evening replaing them.... so they do not melt.

Back to the camaro!!! I think I have covered most bases. I have also planned on the weld-in subframe connectors. I have the plan... need the funds!

You can do it w/out the heads, the guy that owns the performance shop down here has a 99 30th TA, w/a ls6 cam, maxed out vortech, and supporting suspension/rearend who is push 630rwhp thru the 12bolt

I did the blower first, then I realized that the suspension is a major factor! Fairway has the right idea, but SFC's, and a TA are a MUST! The girddle didn't hurt either.
