Default Cheap LS1

I have a buddy lookin to pick up a 2000 A4 Z28, no leather, T-tops, window tints, with 97k kbb says its worth 12k i don't see how but the dealer is only asking 7,900

With such high mileage what should we be looking out for when test driving this car and inspecting it for purchase it's being sold way under suggested retail so i am asking for a little help from the LS1 guys since im a LT1 guy. Thanks

Definatly check the title, make sure its clear, run a CARFAX make sure that everything checks out (the dealer should CARFAX it for free) w/the A4 the tranny might be on its way out, i lost mine at 103k, other than that listen to see if the pistons slap any (not a big deal, but check it anyway) check for leaks underneath and check the oil level see if its burning oil (i doubt the dealer would know or not, and they definatly wouldnt tell you) check the tranny fluid and smell it, make sure it doesnt smell burnt, check if they have maintenence records, which i doubt. other than that just do the usual, check all switches, electronics, make sure the doors arent dragging or anything, and thats all i can think of right now

remove one of the vavle covers.... check for sludged old *** oil stuck to it... its a sign the car was not well maintained...
ask for maintance record and carfax....
check all the fluid levels before and after the test drive
other then that all you really can do is look listen and hope you have learned enough to spot a major trouble...

Avoid all of the headaches and just buy my car. Haven't had a single problem with it since day one. https://ls1tech.com/forums/vehicles-sale-lsx-powered-only/341437-1998-camaro-z28-reduced-price.html

so basically i should look for the same things that i would be looking at any F-body?

KBB is a horrible guide to our cars, and is seldom used by people in the know. $7,900 is right on par for the mileage and the year.

98 Trans Am ONLY 65K MIILES!!!!! $6,995

98 Trans Am $6,500

http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...n&cardist=1096

98 Z $6,700

99 Z $6,900

98 Z $7,750

98 Trans Am $5,900. Yes that's right. You can get an LS1 Trans Am for $5,900 (155k miles, but still).

There are many more like these examples, these certainly aren't the only ones at this price. The market for F-bodies just plain sucks ESPECIALLY ones with higher mileage.

not a single one of your examples were 2000....

could you not find a 2000 for the same price?

Oh yeah good call. I neglected to notice it was an 00 in the ad, I must have read right over that part. Thanks for the correction.
