I would say get an electric cutout. Keep it closed when you want quiet or open it partway up or all the way and get a good dose of sound and power. I went lid, muffler, sfc and next will be an electric cutout. Lid was on gp, muffler had a 50% rebate, sfc were on gp and next will be a dmh or mccord cutout. Lid had little gain, muffler gave a deeper sound not much louder, so I want an electric cutout to control sound volume and performance.

First mods I made to my 2000 Z made an already awesome car really come to life. Used SLP cold air induction package with SLP lid, SLP smoooth Bellows and SLP MAF. Throw in a Magnaflow Cat back and you have a real nice start that offers kick in the pants and a nasty grunt at WOT. I used a Jet Performance programmer to tie the mods together. Some people have varied opinions on hand held programmers but I stick by mine! If you go to WS6store.com they have the best prices for mods by far, good delivery time and customer support. Remember, you can't move fast if you can't breathe. Mechanic friend say's that the better they breathe the faster they go. first mods should always be intake and exhaust. He was right!!!!! Tight on the budget- go Lid first.

GMMG Exhaust + Lid

My first mods and I couldn't be happier, the exhaust sounds truely badass.

I paid 15k for my 99 with 18k miles on it and completely stock. Z28's generally sell for less than TA's anyway.
