Post Ready to get started.... what to do first?

Ok guys. i just bought my 98 z28, m6. i want to throw exhaust on it to make it a LITTLE louder. my buddies have t/a's with slp loadmouth on and they say that when your on the freeway with the cruise set, it gives them a headache. Is there a good flowing exhaust i can go with that wont make it to load? and.. What about intakes... are the volants worth it, or will they be pretty simular to the slp industion kit? sorry if these are repeat questions. i just bouth the car and am ready to modd it. i already bouth the skip shift eleminator the second day i had the car. lol. and does anyone know where i can get a good set of chrome vette rims? the thin 5 spokes in 17's or 18's.... thanx alot.

Will

I have a Magnaflow catback, and I love the way it sounds. Go to www.ls1sounds.com and poke around. They have lots of great clips there.

I agree on the Magnaflow being recommended. Magnaflow and the Hooker cat back exhaust systems will both give you a pleasing performance sound that won't drive you crazy. The Magnaflow exhaust system cost a little more than the Hooker cat back, but the Magnaflow system is made out of stainless steel, meaning it will remain looking great, and will last a long time. Bob

TSP Rumbler, loud but not too loud (plus it's cheaper than the Loudmouth)
As for intakes a lid is a lid is a lid, not much difference in hp gains, so get one used or on sale (I got the SLP)
Wheels, look at the banner for TomZ wheels--------------------->
And get a set of SFCs (should be one of the first mods you do makes the car alot tighter feeling)

That sure is an interesting way to spell bought (bouth) haha, just messin with you. I would check out www.ls1sounds.com like others have said and like 2K2WS6TA said all lids are pretty much the same. Its just a difference between $100 for a lid and $300 for a K n N or something similar with not much more, if any, horsepower.

I've got a volant on my hawk.. works great and turns lots of heads at car shows..

without a ram air hood though, you're probably better off with a lid and ftra or something similar..

sub frame connectors are a brace that goes under the car in the rear, it stiffens the whole car's rear suspension, making it handle better under power.

car will launch better, and most will say it removes alot of rattles and such you hear on stock vehicles.

You can get cheap ones for as low as 100 bucks I think, but do yourself a favor and do it right, get a pair of KB DD's or the umi 3 points, which they run 200 and up.

You won't lose anything.

A sub frame connector connects the front and rear subframe of an F body, stiffens the car up (alot) allows the suspension to work without undue flex from the body, also cuts down on (an in some cases prevents) rattles and squeaks, also prevents the wrinkles in the rear fender that can occur when launching hard
You gain a stiffer car, and a few pounds in weight
You can get them from UMI SLP or Kenny Brown (and most of the sponsors sell them, either 2 or 3 point)
they run up to $350 tho they can be had for less depending on what style (2 or 3 -point) or brand you want

You're better off with that even with a ram-air hood. The factory so-called ram-air isn't all it's crapped up to be. It actually down right sucks of you want a good ram-air setup. Go with a lid and FTRA.

You need to read the sticky's at the top of the page badly. They will answer all your questions, as well as a lot of them that you will want to know later on. Go in the internal engine, external engine, and this section and read the 5 or so sticky's at the top of each of the sections. That ought to get you started.

If it's sealed with a BGRA system or something similar you wouldn't be saying what you just said.

Get a loudmouth II from somewhere other than SLP online. Sponsors have it for over $150 less (shipped) than through SLP direct. IMHO anyone using terms like "a little louder than stock", and "not too loud", should not be looking at a loudmouth 1.

Then again if you want to keep the stock tips... think about a cut out.

I started with a slp lid & lm2 catback... and it was enough of a change to make torque management a problem on my 1-2 shift (A4).
