2001 camaro ss bolt-ons

The 03/04 Cobras are pretty good cars. And if they have mods then it will take a bit to beat them. If its a stock obra then your not that far behind them. My car with just the magnaflow, lid and filter ran with my friends Cobra up until we hit 5th gear. I would actually pull on him a little bit. Then he got the cold air intake and dusted me. I think his came from the factory with a really bad Air-Fuel ratio. Cause he only put down 345 to the wheels stock, and after the cold air he hit somewhere around 375-380 to the wheels. I have two things i would suggest. If you wanna beat them consistantly and almost any one of them you run into. Then throw on some nitrous. A 100-125-or 150 shot will take care of a large majority of them. The other option is to save that money and buy a 02+ ZO6. Do some bolt-ons, nitrous, or a cam and again you will beat the majority of them. A ZO6 can normally beat a Cobra with around 80 less rwhp. I know there will be aruments to the contrary. Every situation is different and every driver is different. But the ZO6 has better gearing, is tons lighter, is more aerodynamic, and looks sweet also. Just my opinion. But i would absolutely stay away from Vortech. If your gonna spend the money, get a turbo instead. Will make awesome power.

well i know my enemy, but i guess i didn't know them that well. I have a 93 lt1 but i would never consider running it against a cobra, cause i know i would lose. but now that i plan on getting an ls1 i'll be good to go. so thats why i'm trying to know the enemy now. i should be able to buy a 20k car by spring time next yr. sp well see what happens then

ok so get the Z06 kit from summit, what bout getting the slp performance pack kit. kit has a High-Flow Air-Box Lid, Cold-Air Induction Package, High-Flow K&N Air Filter, F-Body Smooth Bellows, Modular Loud Mouth™ Exhaust System w/3.5" Slash Tips = $705. which they say makes 350hp then throw on the Z06 pack, should make about 425rwhpish, not to sure really

It looks like an F-Body is the way to go for you. So go for either the WS6 or the SS. The Ram-Air does make a difference. I wouls say dont get any of those packages. If you want bolt-ons. Get a good cat-back. Magnaflow is good and pretty inexpensive. Then get a ported and polished throttle body, lid and filter, and some long tube headers. Also an uderdrive pulley. This will get you in the 350 rwhp range. The unfortunate part is, this also gets you near breaking your rear-end, even on stock tires. And if you have a manual you will also smoke the clutch in no time. As for the turbo options out there. Well there are quite a few options now for the F-Body. I too would not get an STS turbo. If you wanna see the turbo companies out there, go to the forced induction section and go into the Turbo FAQ. They are all in there and it will explain turbos to you a little bit. Just remember, as you add power, you need to add support parts to handle the power.

Im all for F-bodies. I dont really like Disgustangs/ Rustangs. But, with that said.... My brother has a 03 cobra. In fact he let me drive it to work today!!! but, he has exhaust, CAI and pully. I was there for the dyno runs. /he puled 476/470 RW, not at the fly. The car is a beast.
I personally think it would take a highly modified F-body to beat him.
I just bought an SS. 01 forged LS6 w/ LS6 cam and kooks LTs. If this thread is still alive when i get the car i will let you all know how our races turn out.
Ill even take vids. But i honestly think he will take me by a car or 2 in the 1/4 mile. But hell, i hope i proove myself wrong!!

Ok, you stated that you want a camaro SS with 30k-40k miles and can spend 20k next spring, my question is why would you want to find this mint $20k SS with low miles when you are going to mod it to hell anyways. So if you have 20k to spend my suggestion would be buy a nice SS for 10k and spend the other 10k on modding that car, then you will be good to go. and 10k in mods is going to get you further than what you had stated you wanted to have out of the car.
Just my $.02

the prob isn't that i can't find a nice ss, its that they have like 60K + miles on them. and if i throw an ati on there, i'm worried about blowing a connecting rod. now my bro is a mechanic and all and he could help me rebuild the engine. but i would probably end up spending about half of that just to rebuild it. so that would probably leave about 5k in my back pocket to spend on parts. now i know that can get me alot and all. but it's probably gonna come down to getting the ati on there if i want to destroy a cobra

just to let you know you wont find a "nice" SS for 10 grand. No way. i paid 10,500 for my pristine T/A and it was relatively low mileage (43K). Expect to pay about $12K+ for a decent condition SS/WS6 with about 60K miles. And start hunting asap cuz they go fast.
I totally agree though. Get a nice T/A or Z28 for around $11-12 grand. Then put on your own wheels, hood and what not plus about $6K in performance your set.
to give you an idea kbb has these values:
2000 WS6 w/ 40K miles goes for $14K
2001 for $16K
But you can get an excellent 99 T/A or Z28 for about $11K with only 35-40K miles. Just gotta find it. If you really want a WS6/SS type package itll probly run you $2000. Thats $600 for springs/shocks, $800 for a nice hood, and $600 towards wheels. my .02

Ya I didnt mean $10k litterally, just trying to get the point across, and also like stated, buying an SS or a WS6 is just extra money that doesnt need to be spent when you are going to mod it anyways, you can get a Z28 or just a normal Trans Am for a few grand less, and put the same mods on with the same results, and then make it look how you want.

You can get a 2001 SS hardtop for around $14K. There's one in the vehicle classifieds right now. Stripper car, very few options. All you have to do is search and be patient and you'll find what you need. Oh and 60K miles on one of these is nothing to be afraid of.

in a higher mileage engine wouldn't you not install a supercharger on them because of the added compression on the CC. cause I will eventually install one if it comes down to that in order to be able to beat a cobra. And i'm just more concerned about breaking a connecting rod because of the mileage and added compression.
