Default Difference between SS and Z28?

What is the difference between an SS and the Z28. Besides the main comestic apperance like the hood and wing and other things. I mean motor wise? IS there any eral major difference?

I think the SS is rated at 320hp, and I think the suspension is better

Nope. You get the hood, spoiler, suspension, exhaust and wheels/tires.

In 2002, you could get the 345hp option which gave you the exhaust plus a version of SLP's air lid.

An LS1 is an LS1.. SS has a different hood, spoiler and better shocks not worth the extra $$ IMHO

It is if you want one. I ordered mine back in Jan '01.

The hood is the biggest thing I wanted. It is too much of a pain in the *** to get a hood, paint it, and have it installed yourself. Everything else that was factory installed I've pretty much changed since then.

Plus, my car is more rare than a plain Z28. I like that.

Don't get me wrong a SS definetly looks meaner with the different hood and bigger spoiler and your car will be more of a "collectable" in a few years I just think it's a pricey option for a couple letters, hood and spoiler

The SS's also have the 3.23 gears with series 3 carrier. A big plus if your going to change rearend ratio's. Z28's have 2.73s. Don't they have 17 inch rims?Z28's have 16 inch.

not all z28's have 2.73's, my car has the 3.23 performance axle option, you would be suprised how many z's have it

he was being sarcastic. if an ss is faster its by a lid only. buy a lid and you have the same rwhp pretty much

Buy an SS if you like the way it looks.

That is all.

Uh, nothing really.

Assuming there are no SLP extra options on the SS, the only thing it gets over the Z28 (other than cosmetics/wheels) is:

32mm front sway bar
PS cooler (this can be had on a Z28 as well, under RPO V12)
3.23 gears (this can be had on a Z28 as well, under RPO GU5)
SS/WS6 specific low restriction muffler (worth maybe 2hp)
Rear jounce spacers for 17" wheels.

its looks were what made me get mine.

but those extras you get cosmetic or not do cost money.
