It's a crapshoot... I bought my 2000 Z28 new off the showroom floor in nov.99..

i have since added cam, stall, headers, true duals,Ls6intake,pulley,just toname a few.. I have 197K on this car & i would drive it anywhere... & not give it a second thought.

now, "if" i tried to sell the car for what i know it's worth & what i have in it... I am quite sure that any perspective buyer would be scared away due to the mileage.. as would i....

with that said... "you" need to ask yourself... "What if"? & what are the pro's/con's to buying a high mileage car...

good luck with your purchase..

Mine is making about 400rwhp with 113k on the clock, going to the strip tonight too

At that price, you could buy a new shortblock, clutch, and have the tranny rebuilt! I would wait and find a car that you are very excited about getting, not just one you have to debate with yourself on. If you're low on cash and want one bad, then i'd say go for it.

Mileage does not matter as much as how well it was taken care of. If there are service records or it appears to been taken care of go for it!!

I did not mod mine until 113,000. I now have almost 130,000

Good Luck!!!

One quick question.. Is it a used car lot selling the car or an actual GM dealership? Reason I ask is, when used cars come in through gm dealers, we fix anything that needs replacing & do a 121 point inspection.. I would say go for it if it's through a GM dealer.

Arrange to have the car inspected by an independent GM/Chevy dealer. It will cost you about 100-200 bucks but you'll have all the piece of mind you can get. If the used car dealer won't OK it then walk because they are shady. Get a pre purchase inspection, period. A PPI will tell you about everything you can know without taking the engine apart, compression test, condition of the brakes, suspension components, hidden under body damage, etc, etc.

oh i just remembered that when I test drove the car there was some creaking or squeaks. I kind of figured that most of it was from the t tops?? I know that a good set of subframe connectors will help eliminate a lot of un wanted flex/rattles/creaks..but by any chance is it possible to fix the t top from making noises?

Really!? Do you work for a dealer, cause I do... Matter fact I look up & bill the parts to the repair order on used vehicles... 121 point is correct my friend & then we send them down to make ready where they clean & detail them before they hit the lot

you said it was previously wrecked, does this mean it's got a clean or salvaged title, ask about that as a salvaged title may be the reason it's so cheap, which in turn will drop value significantly when you try to sell it, and may make it hard to take out a loan on the car at the bank ( although since your selling your mustang i assume you're paying cash?? )

Car has a clean title, there was some rear end damage mostly the bumper. Owner of the dealer had it replaced and decided to repaint the whole car.

Anyway I went by to try and buy it today and I wasn’t able to get approved for financing Not enough full time work experience

So Im going to try and get my dad to either co sign or just purchase the car in cash and ill just pay monthly.

Aside from that all I have to say is that I havnt been right since the day I drove that car man. I cant even sleep right, because I cant stop thinking about that LS1 :cry

My dad made me a 7k loan so i could buy my car outright. I sold my built MX quad and s-10 blazer to pay it back.

Oh and btw, theblur laid down a 12.0 @ 117.5 friday night at houston raceway park with 113k miles, and thats with my no-launching-*** pulling a 1.9 60'

i have 121k on my car right now. It runs just as good today(well better for sure with some mods) than the day i bought it. I got mine with 87k miles. NO PROBLEMS EVER.

Hell, as soon as i get some more money, more mods, i'm not scared of a high milage LS1, from what i seen, there was a hugger orange Z with like 150k on it, with a procharger, and all the ****, took a beating till they put way too much boost on it, and it then only cracked a piston.

If the car is nice, get it! you will fall in love with the LS1!!

My 98 had about 140K on the engine before I pulled it out. there was nothing wrong with the engine but I wanted to beaf it up and couldnt pass up a deal. The original engine did not smoke or burn oil or leak for that matter. 13.2 stock.. It was a good year..

I stopped by a Toyota lot once (wasting time) and they had a 98 Celica convertable that caught my eye. But after I noticed some swirls in the paint, i started looking real close. Ends up the damn trunk wouldn't open from inside, and the key jammed in the lock cylinder when i tried to open it up from the outside. And THEN they tried to sell me on their multi point (i think it was like 105 points or something) inspection! What a joke!!

Just saw a 98 advertised on Craigslist for 5500, with only 88k miles and in good condition. I'd say you could still find one in that price range by then. After all, prices are going to go down, not up.

Quick Reply: How good is a 98 Z28 with 122k miles?
