Believe it or not, when I test drove a 99 LS1 I thought it was slower because the 95 LT1 felt more "throaty" with little effort.
$1000-$1500 in mods will have the LT1 runnin low 13's
And it will be very loud.
The LS1 is already mid to low 13's.
I say get what you want, but buy the damn thing becasue you like the color, options, wheels, etc etc, not just the damn motor!

I happen to have an LT1 you can have for 5 grand even, with mods that will make it sit right with a full exaust/lid/4.10 geared WS6 6 speed LS1!
(oh the mods on the LT1 are hooker long tubes/off road Y/catback/cold air/3600 stall vigilante/and programming) and i sit right with my buddies 00 WS6 6 speed and he has a 4.10 gear 12 bolt, spec 4 clutch, and full exaust including long tubes and off road y-pipe!
Its in thefor sale section if your intrested. Probably cleaner then the 79K mile LT1 you were looking at too!
