Question how do you take the governor off your car?

I was wondering if there is any way you can take the governor off a CAMARO Z28 LS1 1998?

You mean rev limiter or top speed limiter? Either one can be adjusted with custom tuning, however I would not raise the rev limiter by much at all unless you have an aftermarket valvetrain.....

if you have the z rated tires your top speed will be 160mph. The car wont got much faster than that. 160 is at about 6000rpms.

I agree with RPM WS6 and also what do you need to go faster than 160mph for? Most cars never come close to that speed.

I've heard that our cars hit 170+ on a test track with the governor off.

Should be like 172. Wonder how long and how much runway it takes to get these cars going that fast?

Cars that came without z rated tires were governed at 112 mph. im sure plenty of people have gone faster then that. not the smartest thing to do but im sure youve done it too.

The oil guage is on the left lol.

My car came with some ratty *** tires mounted on some eagle alloy 077 wheels when i bought it. They were non-z rated, but none of that matters.

Look on the door under the tire/wheel description sticker. It should give you the speed rating. Mine has Z rated in the door.

SS's and WS6's came with 17" z-rated factory tires, so they all have the raised 162mph speed limiter.

Not that long, a few miles. i got on rt 55 here in jersey at exit 27, (night time no traffic) merged onto the freeway about 70mph, then went WOT from there hit 5th around 120-125 and kept it pegged. around 5000rpm it was at 150, glanced down, it was past 155, shift light came on at 5500 and i took it up to 5700 rpm then let off, and that was around exit 24, bout' 3 miles down. i did pass one car that night, and i guess i shook his car or something mustve scared him because he just like stopped in the right lane, lol

BTW, at that time, i didnt know that my friend with HPtuners previously raised my governor to 258 or whatever it was, lol

If you plan on doing a lot more work with your car, I would reccomend a Diablo power programmer. You can change your rev limiter, remove your governer, remove the skip shift(T56 trans), and reprogram the computer for more horsepower and better gas milage. The best part though, afterwards, when you do other modifications to your car, you call Diablo, tell them exactly what you did and they will e-mail you a program to upload into your programmer from your home computer. You then plug your programmer into your car, and it pretty much automatically reprograms your cars computer to match your new modifications. This service from Diablo is free, and the programmer runs about 400$.
