Default Need help on a "Mod-Plan"

Alright, I'm really new here, been -ing around for a while but now I got some questions

I'm getting ready to trade-in my '05 v6 Mustang for 2000+ Trans Am. I know the power potential of the car, that's why I'm getting it! Hehe, but anyways, my goal for the end of the race season is over 450rwhp and even more on the torque end. What modifications will get me this far, and what setup will leave room for maybe a 100-125 shot of nitrous if I'm feeling it at the time? Budget...well, nothing too expensive but I'm willing to save up some money for good heads.

Thanks for reading,
Gary

start out with your basic bolt ons, full exhaust, lid, pulley... then get a FAST manifold coupled with the FAST 80mm throttle body, these are all supporting mods for a nice cam... once youve got the supporting mods out of the way, research cams extensively to find out what suits your application best, and remember, no matter what cam you get, its all in the tuning, dont opt for a crappy tune, its just not worth it.

or you can just boost it

thats basically a very vague idea of what can get you 450+ power, there are alot more variables not mentioned, like valvetrain, rear end, transmission... etc.

You wont see more torque then HP unless you go forced induction or nitrous. A good heads/cam/intake setup will take you to 450 rear wheel hp and about 400 ft lbs of torque but unless you go nitrous, plan on spending about $5000 for the h/c and another $1000 for the intake and throttle body. Forced induction will cost you alot more!

Ok, another question...u said to get a FAST Manifold, is that better then the LS6 manifold that comes in the 2001-2002s?

if you have a 2000 and up car, it actually comes WITH The LS6 manifold, so dont even waste your time looking at those... like mine is a 98, i could benefit from a LS6 manifold, but the FAST is probably your best bet, its proven and works great with h/c setups

woops read your question wrong, lol you already knew it came with the LS6.... to answer your question, YES the FAST will definately benefit you over the LS6 intake.

Alright...I can understand that...what about heads? Would really expensive AFR's be an overkill or would it leave more potential for next season? Also, what could I do to make up for the loss in torque, or would it really not matter? I guess that since it doesn't have so much torque that I won't be spinning my wheels quite as much as if I had 450rwhp/470rwtq.

Another question, whats the best place to look around for parts online? I see all the sponsors on the side but too lazy to sift through them all...hehe

not sure about the heads department yet, i havent gotten around to that mod yet... but it would make sense that the better the head, the better flowing thus creating more potential for future mods like you said. but you have to have a complete game plan before getting the cam/heads, as they are custom and suit your application accordingly. if you choose to go boosted, that is a VERY easy way to acheive your goal, but can be very expensive. theres a guy on here with a completely stock ws6, with a supercharger and made i think around 450whp... thats stock exhaust and everything.

as for online stores, they all have their ups and downs, some offer great prices on an item that others wont, like for wheels... look into tomzwheels.com, he cannot be beat. as for say suspension components, look at UMI, or BMR, or SPHON... or valvetrain, theres COMP, PATRIOT, TEXAS SPEED AND PERFORMANCE, and so on...

i say start with exhaust first... most people prefer TSP, hooker, GMMG (expensive)... if you like noise, go with the SLP loudmouth, its basically a hollow resonator put on some 3" pipe for a catback... to hear sounds, go to www.ls1sounds.com it has sounds for TONS of diff. exhaust/cam setups.

i dont think spending the amount for a FAST intake over an LS6 intake is worth it..THIS IS MY OPINION..(dont need to hear how its better then the ls6) but if your trying to get 450rwhp N/A then a 100/150 shot on top of that...i think your going to need a rear end before you even hit 450rwhp. if you take it EASY on the rear end im sure itll last you with 450 rwhp. but launching it on a sticky tire would probably mean death. a good sponsor is www.texas-speed.com (almost every sponsor is good). i got my exhaust from them, they also have fair prices.
i would start out with exhaust, under drive pulley, ported TB and then do a little suspension.
then heads/ cam
rear end
nitrous

So you're saying you can't get 450rwhp with bolt-ons and H/C setup?

It's just that you suggested nitrous...it's my bad, I should have said I wanted 450rwhp N/A in my post hehe, sorry about that. But can you tell me about hittin' 450rwhp N/A but still having forced induction/nitrous potential for next race season?
