Yes, probably because one is Chevy and the other is Pontiac, so there will be a difference...exterior wise. One has to look different than the other. Though they share the same engine, chassis, drive train, etc...they are still basically the same car. The only difference is obviously exterior, suspension, wheel size and exhaust (SS and WS6 has different mufflers which flowed better).

If I were you, I would either get an LS1, or an 03-04 Cobra. 03-04 Cobra's have just as much or maybe more potential than the ls1s, they are very close anyways. Plus these look just sexy as hell and you can't tell me you don't like the wine of that supercharger...

the noob..that was a good write up for someone who has never driven a mach 1. a friend of mines dad had a mach 1 and he brought it to school a couple times. it was a very nice looking car. and i do agree mustangs are one of the best sounding cars.. especially with exhaust. they just sound very mean. but i agree with everyone whose been saying drive both and see which one you like more. good luck

If you can afford an 03/04 Cobra it is a complete no-brainer. Everything on the car is bulletproof on that car. And Ford also underrated that engine for insurance purposes. They are rated at 390 at the crank but they dyno between 360-and 370 at the wheels.... They respond better to some mods than the LS1.

I test drove an 03 Cobra for about an hour (with no salemen in the car ) and what a rush it was. It handles very well (IRS for the win) and has a different feel from every other Mustang I have driven.

Hope I'm not too late to reply to this. Since you guys are talking about the cobra,
here's what I think...
I own a Mach 1 and it's a very fun car. It's a five speed compared to the cobra's 6 speed(sux). I've driven friends 03-04 Cobras and they do feel faster, but only because they're supercharged. They both have basically the same engine, but I prefer the mach 1's solid rear end.
Now I just got my hawk and it runs alright, but I think for a regular ta, stock vs stock, Mach 1 will beat the 99-02 TA.

I don't think you got what I was saying. I was commenting on his "all f-bodies" remark and stating that there is more difference between the Camaro and WS-6 than a base model GT and Mach 1. I say he needs to test drive a few and just buy whatever he's comfortable in. I was real close to buying an 03 Cobra but hated how you sit in it. I felt all crunched up and the shifter position was all fucked up. Ruined the whole deal for me. Like the looks of the WS6 better anyhow though. It's all about preference.

They are basically the same engine, except the Cobra engine is absolutely bulletproof and good up and beyond the 1000HP mark. The Mach1 engine, I believe, doesn't have forged internals like the N/A Cobra's, which explains why the N/A Cobras can rev to 6500RPM and the Mach redlines at 6000....

And it is a close race between the two, but the LS1 has the edge. The fastest I have seen a Mach 1 run is a 13.1, and those results aren't typical. Stock LS1's dip into the 12's too often for it to be a fluke...

If anybody else is looking for a little description on other cars, let me know. I would be glad to give any info. I have driven all kinds of cars, from honda's, to Jag's, to Porsche's, all the way up to the mighy Ford GT

I have to agree and say ls1 or 03-04 cobra. If you are trying to save some money go with the 99 TA. You can get a low mileage one for much less than an 03 mach if you look around. If you can afford to spend 20K+ then get an 03-04 cobra. The mach's are real nice cars and I love the shaker hood, but most I have seen are within $3-$4K of the cobras and for the extra money id def get the cobra simply for the forged engine and supercharger, plus I think the styling is a little better. Also, as someone else said, the ls1 aftermarket is huge, and the 03-04 cobra aftermarket is getting big as well, while I havent seen a whole lot for the mach. In the end though you need to pick the car that you feel is right for you and makes you happy, and I think you will be satisfied with any of the 3 cars mentioned above.

Believe it or not, in my area the Mach 1's are cheaper then f-body's by almost a $3,000 to $10,000 difference. No joke! It's insane what people want for a 1999 f-body. For example. A guy has a 99 Trans Am with 30,000km's and he wants $30,000. There's a dealership with an 03 Mach 1 with 38,000km's and they want $19,000!

Nope not really, sure they are both Ford DOHC 4.6's but thats about it.

They have different blocks (cast iron for the Terminator, aluminium for the Mach 1), different heads, intake, TB and most of the internals. I beleive the Mach 1 has a forged crank but only for the manual the auto variant has a lesser motor. However the CR is also different and the evident lack of a blower.

Performance is close between them, the Mach has a slight weight advantage and the LS1's a slight power advantage. But M6 LS1 usuallt trap higher than Mach 1's so it means it's all down to the suspension and how well the car hooks as opposed to bhp.

mach 1s rev to 7k just like the cobra, they have the same crank shaft.

Wow thats insane! Haha id def go with the mach if thats the price difference. In comparison, around my area ive seen a few machs with around 10K miles for 22-23K, 03 cobras with around 15K miles for around 25-28K, and fbodies for much cheaper than both, unless its a 02 ws6 or 02 ss, then its priced around the same as the machs.

IMO stick with the TA. The LS1 is a proven reliable engine that will take care of you. Performance is great also. I personally dont have a taste for the stangs but thats my vote.

a 4.6 sounds really good with the right exhaust but look at it this way if u get an f-body car u get the choice of ttops convertible or coupe, but a mustang u get convertible or coupe so its how u want to ride in the seasons. i personally love my ttops on my 2000 SS but its what ever u want

true, i love the t-tops on my 96 SS. There's a 1999 Formula for sale in my area with 50,000km's. He wants $16,000. It's fully loaded, but no six speed

Hate to start a Ford Vs Chevy fued but if you are choosing on quality, the Mach 1 is a no-brainer... It is a very sound car....

Actually I guess you're right.. For some reason I was thinking the Mach's only revved to 6k... My bad.
