Just until the temp reaches 100+ degree's, then I take it easy until normal temp.

Peace,
Craig.

A few minutes then revs under 2500 until warm.

I do the same now as well. There is a write up about this in the Pontiac High Performance. It's more about saving fuel, but hassome good reasoning to it.

Going from a fbody based LS1 to a z06 with a oil temp guage, I can tell you it takes a helluva lot longer for the oil to hit 150 degrees than for the coolant to hit 200.

You should not idle your car for too long, maybe a minute or two, then plan on 5-15 minutes of driving before beating on the car.

Really not good for the car to be romped on till the oil temp is at least 150, and 160 is better.

918's is my reason, brittle, if you go tearing around cold, get ready for the motor to eat a valve

No warm-up here. ...and I have a loooong history of not losing motors. Of course, I'm generally not too rough on 'em either.

Is there something about the LS1 that it needs a warm-up?

lol my friend in his 1996 mustang GT gets in there and immediately revs the hell out of it. Pulls out of his driveway, then preceeds to launch it and give it hell all the way through town. I asked why would you do that to your car, he just says he doesn't give a **** because it's a piece of **** anyways LOL.

I usually let it warm up for about 30 seconds then drive at about 2k until its warmed up.

Big cam + dual springs = definetly warm your car up for the springs. I wait until at least the temp gauge starts to move, then i baby her.

Even with a big cam and stiff springs you do not need to sit there idling. Lift happens regardless of RPM. The difference between idling around 1k rpm and driving at 2k or a little bit higher isn't significant.

Take it easy until it is warmed up and you will be fine.

I used to let it warm up, but it is just a waste of gas letting it idle. I used to let it warm up because I thought that if I didn't the piston slap was going to get worse. It got worse anyway. I just put the key in and go now, but I take it easy until the engine is warmed up enough where most of the slap is gone.

Letting an engine sit and warm up actually has negative effects on an engines health. I let it sit untill oil pressure comes up, wait 5-10 seconds, then drive easy till it is up to operating temps

We are working on 180k on the truck that pulls 10-20k pounds on a regular basis... your point? haha

Maybe back in the 50's maybe they needed warmed up, but not so much anymore. Its like breaking in the cam (some old guy told me I had to at work). Good in the 50's, not so much today
