1 to 2 mins so the oil gets all in the moter. Bc if you think about it all the oil is sitting in the bottom of the oil pan. Would't you just be almost running metle on metle. I dk but thats what comes to my mind when i first start my baby.

No, it is not. If you drive it easily until it is warmed up driving away shortly after starting IS NOT HARD ON THE ENGINE OR THE SPRINGS.

Maybe back in the 50's maybe they needed warmed up, but not so much anymore. Its like breaking in the cam (some old guy told me I had to at work). Good in the 50's, not so much today
again please explain the negative effects of warming up a cold engine.

Excessive carbon build up, I believe, is part of it.

Most people don't realize there are more things to warm up besides the engine coolant, and they don't get warmed up while idling.

Not to mention wasting gas.

When you idle for extended periods, the rings are cold and have the most gap, letting gas bypass them. Have you seen what gas in your oil can do? If you ever get a chance, send your oil off for an oil analysis.

I also argued this, but it is hard to argue the point with a retired shop forman turned teacher, and head of the diesel program for the University of Northwestern Ohio.

I wait about as long as it takes me to change in a new cd. Then I back her outta the garage and drive her slow till the temp marker moves on my car thats about 5 to 10 minutes.

With my cam i have to let it warm until the temperature begins registering (130) or it will surge and buck like crazy. The carb swap is supposed to fix this.

What cam are you running? What tranny, stall speed, gears, etc? Who did the tuning?

I can only speculate but I would say waiting for the temp to go up is a band-aid. People with really large cams are able to turn key and go. I have no problem doing so...

I have never sat and warmed up my LS1 in the 5 yrs I have had it. 102,000 miles later still running like new and never any engine problems. Only last month for the 1st time did I have to change the water pump, and rebuilt my alternator!!! In the bitter cold all I did was turn on and start driving. All I ever used was regular mobil One Oil from when it was new. I am not sure if it really makes a difference to warm up your car or not.

Yes it is. No reason to warm it up. Start it and drive.

I am running 340 bhp crate 302 with a stock A9L ECU because noone tunes those and refuses to take my money to TRY and tune it b/c they know i will be pissed spending 500 for nothing. It wil lbe carbed soon. The cam is a X303 (224/224 .542) And yes, why dont YOU try running your GM with a stock ecu, no tune, jsut a MAF for bigger injectors. I wonder if a bit of cold surge is all YOU will experience...

PS, letting an engine idle for 1 hour is = to driving 38 miles according to ford as I recall.

I am confident I could put a 224/224 in my LS1 with stock tune and drive it without waiting for the temp to reach 140*. I drove mine several hundred miles on bone stock ecu/tune with a 237/242 on a 113 and didn't need to wait that long before driving away. The trick was coming to a stop without having it die.

Ahhh, see I have no problems at all after warm up, also, have you tried changing your compression ratio, heads, gears, fuel system, fuel pressure settings, AS WELL as that cam, all without touching the ECU...?

Anywyas, its a moot point, I wil lbe carb'ed soon enough im hoping

If i were having all that trouble with an X cam i'd just throw on a mega squirt stand alone and be free to tune EFI all day long.

I thought you could use a twEECer to tune the A9L?
