Trans Am vs Formula - differences?
#41
A formula could have been ordered with every option the trans am had. The big difference is the extra weight the TA carries with all the ground effects. So formulas are a bit quicker in stock form against a stock TA. I specially ordered my Formula factory direct without the WS6, leather, and TTops because I got tired of them in my last 2 TA's and camaro. Getting burned in the sun, and leaking Ttops lol. And I wanted the sleeper which I love having.

From Edmunds:
01 TA Curb Weight: 3499 lbs.
01 Forumla Curb Weight: 3452 lbs.
00 TA Curb Weight: 3397 lbs.
00 Forumla Curb Weight: 3341 lbs.
99 TA Curb Weight: 3397 lbs.
99 Forumla Curb Weight: 3341 lbs.
98 TA Curb Weight: 3477 lbs.
98 Forumla Curb Weight: 3455 lbs.
Weight difference between the 2 is minimal, I love WS6 formula's, but I'd rather weigh 23 pounds more and look better IMO. Decide by your taste.

I own a T/A but I am gonna tell you to go with a formula, If I could do it over again i would get a formula WS.6 or just a plain formula and slap a WS.6 hood on her...I like the front fascia of the formula better than the T/A, but then I also like the high rise spoiler on the T/A compared to the one on the formula... Both cars look great, but if insurance really is less expensive on the formula then definately go with the formula if that is what you want.

ehh i love my TA i mean really, a few pounds heavier isnt gonna make that big of a difference, esp when half the time i race people who weigh alot more then me lol...(175) so that offsets it, my t-tops work fine, you honestly have to use them or they mold wrong, thats peoples problems.

Beat me to it. People really overstate the weight differences in these cars. It's negligable. I like the Formula front ends but otherwise the base models just don't do it for me.

If I had to choose again I would still want a Formula but I think I would shop around for a factory produced Formula WS6. Very rare, very clean looking and very stylish without being overdone.

although i would always go with the t/a, you have to respect the formula, it started the firehawk (with SLP). even though a 4th gen hawk is cool, a third gen hawk takes all the cake!
