Is it worth paying more for the SS then the z28?

but by the time you've paid the extra for the ss, then "upgrade" the cat back, and so on and so on and so on with all the other mods, you could have bought a z and done the same thing and got the same results. sure, you'll save 100 bucks on the lid, but you'll still be adding ****, etc.

If you plan on heavily modding the car id say go with the Z b/c your probally goin to replace most of the parts but if you plan on keeping in mostly stock id say go w/ the SS, and IMO once you mod a car past a certan degree it takes away from it being a SS b/c the whole point of a SS is to have upgraded factory options but whats the point if you take them all off. And theirs also the look difference

I think my Z28 looks pretty good. I know it doesn't compare to an SS but But I'm not too embarrassed to drive it.
I think an SS would be worth the extra money- they look great. But with a Z28, you do have the option of personalizing your car.

if money's an issue go with the z.... ss is for looks which i will admit looks better but ended up w/ a z due to budget. basically the same car... do what you feel is best.
Black Z/28 - i love your spoiler, i will be getting one like that..... is that the Z/29 one? or an LT1 SS?

IMO not worth the extra 2-3k for the car. plus if you have it financed, thats more in intrest you're paying too.

When I was in the market last year I felt that the added sticker price of an SS was totally not worth it and just for the name. I also agree that a plain jane Camaro didn't have exactly the look I wanted....and I wanted a nice hood and would upgrade the wheels to aftermarket either way. For me the best option was to get a Y3F (Sports Appearance Package) Z28, which I think looks better than any SS from the side and has a better looking spoiler more traditional with what the 2nd and 3rd gens had. Then I kept my eye on Craigslist for a few months and I eventually scored an OEM SS hood off a wrecked car a guy wanted the LS1 out of for a conversion for $100. Now I laugh everytime I see someone pay $2500 for it at the dealers.

If you feel the SS is worth it to you, then it's worth it. It doesn't matter what anyone else says, because it's your car. If I had come acoss a great deal on an SS when I was looking, I would have gotten it, but I got a Z for a pretty damn good price, so I got that instead.
Oh, and as for the SS holding a better resale value, there's a reason for that: you paid more for it to begin with. It's not like you're getting a better return on your investment, just some of the extra money you spent to buy it over a Z in the first place.

I bought a z28 mainly because around here similar condition ss cars are going for 15-18,000 and i only paid 10 for my z28. I don't mind owning a z28 at all even though it is more common because the z28 has a lot of heritage from the late 60's just like the ss. I also like the fact that a stock z28 has more bite then bark with it's flat hood and crappy wheels it doesn't look as fast as the ss and is easy to mistake for a v-6 car at first glance, even after first glance many people think only the ss got the ls1 and that it is still a v-6 car. Another reason i picked the z28 is because i can moddify it as much as i want without feeling like i'm destroying a rare muscle car. Oh yeah and for 8 grand that i saved buying the z28 i could make it an ss clone and still have money left to mod the hell out of it. I think for someone looking to collect and preserve cars the ss is a good choice but to the average ls1tech person looking for an f-body to moddify the z28 is the prodominate choice.

blah blah blah, buy whatever the ****, it doesnt matter. I got a WS6 its fun, end of story. To me asking the difference from the Z28 and the SS is like asking the difference between a GSR and Type R integra. Who the hell cares, yank that motor and get to work.
