[QUOTE=My '98 burns no oil and has no piston slap. Can't say the same for the '00 car I sold.[/QUOTE]

Same here no oil burning or piston slap, and i got a LS6 oil pump so my pressure is always good. I know the 98 myth isnt true but i just hate when people, such as dumbass people not alot from this forum but just people who dont know much about the different years and how our cars work. i had some douche tell me that my car would be a 500 HP car if i put a superchip in it, thats the kind of people i deal with lol.

LOL, I'll bet some people that died in 1977 know more about LS1s than the guy that told you that BS.

We have to hear from guys all the time what year is that, oh its a 98 that sucks. And the one that everyone of this board hears, So can you keep up with an SS.

When I get home, I'll get you the dyno sheet. There's a vid out there a guy made, but I don't have the link. It shows how bad my car threw smoke.

Rumor has it that god didnt build the ls1 until one fateful day in 2000.
Until then it was merely built by angels with instruction from the father.

This is another downfall of the earlier ls1's.

My 98 has been tough as hell since day 1. In 8 years, I have had to replace the fuel pump and rebuild the 10 bolt. No oil consumption or slapping whatsoever. I never dyno'd when it was stock, so I can't say much about stock hp numbers. I installed LT's, Ypipe, catback, LS6 intake and it put down 327/332 through a 12 bolt. This was on a dynojet with mild HPtuning. I feel like these are decent numbers.

I just hit 74k on the clock and still running like a f'n champ. Car is still basically like new. Maintenance is EVERYTHING!

the only reason I am aware of is that the 98's had different CPU's in them so some shops dont have the resorces to tune them and what not

But damm a ls1 is a ls1

If they dont have the resources to invest in the tuning software then I'd get my car tuned elsewhere, not matter what year it is. Now not tuning for an OBDII LT1 I understand, but if they can't get the entire HP Tuners package for LS1's, cmon.

I agree, I've got software for 94-05 GM cars, hope to have LS2 stuff before long....

Two recalls that I know of for '98. One was for the EGR valve, the other was for re-machining of the spark plug holes (the opening of the hole was machined flat rather than on an angle on some cylinder heads). My VIN fell in the date range for both recalls, but it was determined that my spark plug holes did not require any machining, however it did receive the new EGR valve.
