Engine misses
Good evening All,
my ws6 with 43k has developed a skip. I have driven it about once or twice a week for the last several months, I noticed it about six weeks ago, when I wound it up through the gears, it would occasionally miss.
Last week, it was pretty much constant, during my one twenty minute ride.
So, now it needs be fixed. This is my first ls motor, so I would mine your experiences for the best guess, as to the name of this gremlin.
It's an 99 m6, with long tube headers, an SLP airbox, and granatelli MAS. I've had it for about 4k, and it's always run well.
thanks

Give it a full tune up, to start with.
Meaning new plugs (AC Delco Iridium and NKG Iridiums are good), new wires, Fuel injection cleaner, top engine cleaner, and a new fuel filter .
For fuel injection cleaner, Chrevron Techron is one of the best, just buy a bottle and run it through the tank. Seafoam is one of the best top engine cleaners. Buy a can, and slowly run it through the brake booster line at idle. It will clean the engine out nicely, and give you better performance and fuel economy.
If the miss is still present after doing all that, then you know the problem is something more serious. It's best to eliminate the easy/scheduled maintenance things first though.
Hope that helps.

Sorry for the delay. Plugs are NGK R TR6, wires are Delphi, stock? Yes the SES light is on. Happens mostly under load. Tomorrow a.m. I take it to the dealer to have it scanned. Thanks

Back from the GM dealer. The scanner indicated that the misfire was random among all cylinders.
They suggest new delco plugs and wire for a mere $545., they also said NGK were quite inferior.
Insofar as I've twisted a wrench or two before, I reckon I shall do it myself.
Any suggestions as to the best plugs and wires?
I certainly appreciate the wealth of info. at this site, and thank all for their help!!!
