Default formula?

My buddy recently picked up a 98' ta. When he got insurance for it, they said it was a formula trans-am....but on the side of the car it says TRANS AM. Plus it has the same spoiler as my 00' ws6. Car has full options including leather seats, power windows, power seats with lunbar....Could this still be a formula or were they just classifying it as a formula/ta?

I think they are just classifying it as formula/ta. Look for the RPO code if it has WS9 then it will be a formula. My guess is its just a regular TA.

does it look like a V6 car? if it has the same body components ie spoiler, bumper and front clip then it is a TA, if it has the V6 body components then it is a Formula, they classify them as formula/TA because they have the same engine and cost the same to insure

My insurance put my car in the formula/trans am catagory too. I think it just has to do with what motor is in the car. I have a ws6 by the way.

Formula and Trans Am are the same classification for insurance purposes - hence formula/trans am.

That is because all V8 Firebirds are Formulas. The Trans Am is an appearance package on a Formula.

^^ What he said. Its classified like this: Firebird-Formula-Trans Am-WS6. Firebird=base model, Formula=V8, Trans Am=Apperance Package, WS6=Ram air package.

So my car would be a firebird formula trans am as well
