Default will i like my 6.0L LQ9?

hey i wanted some of ur opinions. recently my motor was flooded by flood waters and blew 2 holes in the block. i got the insurance to pay for a 6.0L LQ9 motor and a small comp cam. was it a good move? is it really better than a reg 5.7 ls1? let me know what yall think. my 2002 t/a will be done by the end of the week. i hope im not disappointed.

thanks

I hope you changed the internals, the crank and rods are weak. I used my ls1 crank in my build.

i suppose that they did. i snapped a rod in the old ls1. Advanced racing dynamics are the ppl that built it for me. they have a pretty good reputation. i really dont know exactly what u mean. they build a lot of these 6.0L with no problems at all.

The crank is a cast crank and its not as good of metal as the factory ls1 crank.

oh i will mention that too them tomorrow when i check up on it. u think i will see a decent gain at the rear wheel? it is a lq9 w/ aluminum heads, they are also boreing it out to a 390 or something..im not sure exactly. i will also have the lid, ls6 intake, comp cam xr273 hr . they said i couldnt go with a big cam cause of my stock stall which makes no sense to me. mac mids, ory, borla. what do u think?

thanks for the tips

You have to match your cam with your stall so it will perform right.

Yup, big cam with the stock or a small stall is a big no no performance wise. Get a yank 3400-4000 stall and run a big cam, such as an MS3 or MS4, and you will be quite happy IMO. Also, listen to the advice by we_todd_did with the engine build.

also while they are in there I say spring for some aftermarket rod bolts as well for added strength as they are usually the first thing to go in a big cammed engine.
