Default power window

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. My driver side power window motor went out and i was wondering if there is a shop that installs these motors. I already have the motor but have no time to devote nor do I think i have the tools needed to complete the job. I live in Keller texas next to Central h.s . Is there a shop that anyone knows about that does this kind of stuff or fix.

almost any half way knowledgeable body shop or mechanical shop could do it

It's really very easy, have you checked out one of the online install guides? No special tools required.

You'll probably find the time when you find out how bad a shop is going to rape you to do this relatively simple job.

Countless endless amounts of threads on this information. Do it yourself. Don't let a shop or even the dealership mess up your door like they did with mine.

no thank you for posting this...
he has a bunch of mods.... cam , springs, exhaust etc...so on. And he doesn't have time for a beasly window motor? i wonder if he paid 600.00 to have that cam installed?
and to answer your question..... yes about any idiot at a shop can do this..and charge you 150.00 in labor or whatever..
I know you've got the answer...i just wanted to say this.

Yup...good ol pro-rated $300/hr labor rate.
I'm in the wrong business.
I've done it before. It took me 45min the first time and I can probably do it in 30min next time. If I can do it in 30min, a shop certainly can.

No, it is not a business that is very fun to be in(in my experiences.) The labor rate goes up because normal repair shops arent looking for, or even have labor rates for installing performance items. (which is also why the labor rates will vary between shops) Your average techincian doesnt put on LS1 headers everyday(at a repair shop), and it will, in most cases, take longer than expected. Any other normal clientel wishing to have their car fixed that day must wait for the tech to finish the performance item at hand, which usually takes longer than expected. I will admit, some people are just naturally better at certain things, but from a business stand point, shops try to scare you away with a big labor rate.

autotrix,

I know about the labor rates and "the book-o-rates" which says that a window motor install is a 2hr job at 75+/hr even though the tech will be done in 30min he "has to" charge you for those 2 hours according to the shop's rules. I've also had some shops try to rip me on parts....."its gonna cost $30 for that part"...."no its $10 and I already bought it, look in the trunk"...

Yeah, much like dealerships, well ran repair shops keep a good stock of parts in inventory and make a good part of their money through these sales. Often, repair shops will charge you more in labor due to the fact of the warranty/safety issues when install a part that they diddnt approve of. Some Service writers will come out and tell you that they will charge more labor on repair orders that have brought their own parts; others just beat around the bush. I can see why people think that it is a shady business.

Thats not what I has getting at. They didn't charge any more or less because I brought my own parts. My point is that they have a book saying how long it should take and how much they should charge regardless of whether it actually takes less time and costs less to do, they charge that amount. In my business (software consultant....programmer), we charge for services rendered. So if we work 3hrs for a client we charge 3hrs. We dont work 30min and charge for 2hrs.

ohhhhhh! I see totally where you are coming from. Yeah that is just the way auto techs are paid, a commission, flag rate. I can see both sides on this subject matter, more times than not, a tech will spend more time on your car than he is paid.

what bout on a flat rate job where **** dont go right and it takes twice as long, and u only get paid the flat rate pay. or how about you get charged so much per hour and it takes 5 hours cause someone is slow or someone fast does it in 20 minutes!

When it takes twice as long it sucks. When you are able to complete the job faster than the "clock" it is great. You win some and you lose some, thats how it is. You cant work slow, it would only hinder ones paycheck, or job security.

It does suck when a job takes longer than stated/expected....but coming from my background I'd expect it to cost more. Thats how it works in most other industries. But some shops would abuse that too.
